She's not a "gun dog", but she thinks she is. She let me know early, probably because of my lack of my own discipline in doing drags, that being a wounded deer dog was just not of any interest to her (Blue Lacy). She'll be ecstatic and "try" if I take her out after a bad hit, but she has absolutely no idea whatsoever what she's doing but is so happy doing it! However, I love this dog more than any dog in my life, and I've had a bunch of them. She'll be 11 in September. She's never drunk much water, always a finicky eater, and is a PITA whenever someone comes to the door. But she's been "on" 110% of the time as far as protecting our family, loving our grandkids, and patrolling her yard, either at home or out west of here. At the ranch she wakes me at 4 to try and get me to check the pig traps early. She is throwing up almost every day now and sometimes not eating much at all. I know what's happening. I will not handle this well. My wife took this picture a few minutes ago.

We lost our black lab in Jan 22. Kidney Disease. She was only 5. I cry for her everyday. I feel your pain. Prayers sent your way.

I feel for you. I had to let my Dash go almost exactly a year ago. Not going to lie, it has been hard dealing with it even after all this time. It is tough when you bond with them that much.

I too feel for you after going through the pain & emotion of watching old-age catch up with our dogs. Just recently our +9 year old dog tore its ACL. She is a rescue mutt that we brought home after a $50 donation. There was no hesitation in getting her TPLO surgery, but watching here slow down reminds us more & more each day to enjoy her just sleeping on the couch or begging (demanding) a bite of cheese.

I’ve lost way to many dogs over the last seven years. Sometimes I wonder why we do it, when we know losing them will break our hearts.

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.

Been years for me, I've lost two both completely different but their passing still brings me to tears with the thought. I was able to buy my last girl dog a steak and we had a meal the day before I had her put down. I think, hell I know she had an idea as to what was going on.

I wish I could say it will be better when it's over, but that would be a lie. Try to think of the memories.

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

Oh this is so true! Just found out yesterday our 8 year GSD has DM and just the thought of what is coming just starts another stream of tears.
Wishing you strength in the days ahead cheers
