My brother and I drew this hunt in October. I've never hunted Javelina before, but I've always wanted one to hang in the house.

I don't really know what to expect. I've heard there's not too much to it if they're around. Similar to hunting a wild pig?

Not hard to kill, and they never seemed as jumpy and alert as feral hogs. And some adventurous folk actually eat them.

I've had them come in to a rabbit in distress call while calling coyote. You might give that a try.

Find the water and stink pigs wont be far. Watch the wind.

As far as eat, they taste good. With that said, you get into that rump gland and its not going to be fun.

They do not have good eyesight. Downwind, I've gotten to within 10 yards before they notice something is not right. When they get excited they snap their teeth. They are funny little animals.

The rabbit distress sounds very similar to a javelina distress call. I've used it with varying success. If they're close or just busted up it can work but I've not called them in blind. It's a fun hunt with a bow. We hunt them nearly every January in AZ. Spot and stalk is the most enjoyable way I've hunted them. And yes, take care to avoid that gland on their rump. It should come off with the hide but if you cut it retire that knife, change your gloves and toss the hind quarters or suffer the consequences.

No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

Stinky animals like others have said, but they are fairly easy to stalk and hunt with a bow. I've seen them run off mature bucks over the corn. We seem to have an abundance of them at our lease so we sell off a few javelina hunts in February after each deer season.

Dumb as can be. We shoot them with a rifle and the pack comes back in a couple minutes. We ask all our paid hunters to shoot any pig or javelin after a deer is taken. They typically aren’t hard to find if around, you might smell em first!

Big Bend ranch is an awesome place and to be able to hunt it is really a treat with the beauty and magnitude of the place. I would be pumped just to go and explore it.

have fun!!

We've got to go see it before we're too old. Did Connally own it at one time?
