Me and a friend were discussing buying a couple class 3 firearms together and were curious if it’s possible to have a separate gun trust set up for the two of us and share ownership of the guns. Anyone dealt with anything like this before?

Yes, you can have a trust with just you and him on it and you guys would both share them. You'll have to both send in Prints, Photos, and get the Background check done for each item. Just like a normal trust with multiple people on it.

Just make sure you buy from someone that's going to be in business 6-8 months after you submit your Form 4. If they go out of business it can become a cluster mess!
