Lever guns are really making a comeback and look fun to shoot. I would like one in .38/.357 to plink with and maybe start a Cowboy Action battery.

It sems like everything we do, you get what you pay for. Searching YouTube the Rossi M92 gets a lot of attention but has many flaws. The Cimarrons look good and the Winchester's are really nice.

Also, like what we do, they ALL seem to need custom mods for smooth, fast functioning.

Anyone jacking with one of these lever rifles?

Buzz check out Taylor’s they have some really nice knock off Winchesters without the stupid locks and safeties that the rossi has.

I've owned Marlins and Winchesters over the years. I think the 1894 is still my favorite. I have a production 1898 model 1894 that is as reliable as they come.

I bought a Rossi long ago. It was way cheaper than a Winchester, and although it took some working to make it right, it shoots great now and is a gun that I love to shoot. Accurate too. Knowing you, I'd suggest plopping down the cash for a Winchester. You probably won't lose much when you sell it.

I have had Winchester 94s and want a smooth 92 and might find a good one one day. Really have had fun with one in 25-20. I have a couple Marlins 25-20 and 357 Mag. Both needed a little bit if polish to slick up but they run great now.

22s I have a Browning 22 lever and a Winchester 9422M trapper that is the smoothest actioned lever I ever operated. Took it out of the box at a friends gun store to tag and put on the shelf, after working the lever one time just checking it I put it back in the box and told him this one is sold. I have owned others including a couple Marlin 1895s that were fun but for deer at the ranges I use lever actions the 357 works great for me, is lighter and recoils a lot less and that 16.5 inch barrel makes for a handy blind or truck gun.

I have shot a few Rossi M92 and really no complaint other than the triggers were a bit heavy on them. They functioned fine

I have owned a Marlin 336 for 35 years and have a few Marlin models. Always my favorite. Have never owned a Winchester lever or handled a Henry or Rossi. Levers have always been cool in my opinion.

Lever guns have always been my thing even though I hunt in an area that really isnt lever gun friendly. Having owned Winchesters, Marlins, and Brownings I can say my hands down favorite is the Winchesters. There is no other rifle on earth that points and shoots as naturally as a Winchester. Marlins are a stronger gun all around but strength comes with a price and that price is weight. Brownings just never did anything for me. Super nice and smooth guns but doesnt have that classic feel like the Winchester does.

I hear alot of good things about Henry but they never appealed to me.

If I were you I would stick with Marlin and Winchester. We both know it will be for sale again in less than a year and you are more likely to move one of those two quicker than some more obscure brand.

A couple of Marlins in .357 and .44 are just two of my bucket list guns. I had a pre-safety Winchester 94 that I sold 10 or 15 years ago. I could absolutely kick myself for ever letting that rifle go.

I’ve been wanting a lever gun in 357/38 for a while now. I’m leaning towards a Henry Big Boy Steel, All Weather, or Case Hardened.

Thanks to 71RCode I am a Marlin owner and have a small collection. IMO nothing beats them. I get that the Winchester may have won the west but mostly due to mass production and what was available. Who knows, I just like Marlins look and reliability. I currently have 8 in several calibers. 357/38, 44, 30-30, and 45/70. The Cowboy models are my favs.

Note to Buzz, you were kind enough to leave some free brass on your doorstep for me once. If you want to shoot a few of mine I’d be happy to oblige. Fair warning the 45/70 is a beast. PM me if interested.

I'm not sold on Henry. However the thought of Ruger/Marlin bringing back the 1894 in 357 has me salivating.

I have a JM stamped Marlin 1894 in 357 and the gun drives me crazy. I love it, but it hardly functions due the dreaded Marlin jam. I need to find a competent gun smith and have it fixed or otherwise, it’s a wall hanger. If anyone knows a good smith in the Dallas area, please let me know.

There's a Rossi 357 in there somewhere, pre-safety, it gets lots of field time and has bested quite a few hogs and coyotes.

I have an pre-64 winchester 94 that was my granddad's. That thing kicks like a mule and is one of the least enjoyable guns to shoot that I own. Lots of recoil, no accuracy compared to my scoped bolt guns, slower than my ARs...

Maybe one of these days I'll understand the attraction but right now I don't. I see very few younger people getting into lever guns so I assume the intense market for them is something of a fad.

Same here. My Rossi is old enough to be built well. No safety, no plastic parts anywhere on it, deep blueing, prettier wood, better rear sight than more modern ones. Rossi has changed hands several times and the current parent company seems to be putting out good rifles. They're coming back out with previous discontinued models, and are growing. Production was stopped for a good while after acquisition because they actually built a new plant and got new machinery.

There is no question which rifle to get if buying a pistol caliber. That would be an 1892 ... far superior to the Marlin 1894. The 1892 is lighter and stronger than the 1894, is in current production, and is half the price. See my topic I started yesterday on Marlin rifles. JM doesn't mean it's a good one and some Remlins can shoot. They are all selling for more than they're worth to me.

Not a Henry fan here. The 22 rifle has a PAINTED sheetmetal facade over a cast receiver. No thanks. The centerfire rifles are made with looks as the first priority. Ever seen a modern Henry with 10K rounds down the barrel? Me neither.

If I had the cash, I'd buy a vintage US made Winchester. If not, the Rossi is the choice.

For rifle calibers, I like the Marlin or the Winchester (US made). Just keep in mind JM stamped doesn't mean it's a good rifle (just more expensive).

I really wanted a Marlin but refused to pay the prices that were being asked. At the end of the day, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the Henry, and I’d buy one again

I've got an octagon barrel Marlin 357/38 that's a sweet shooting gun. Alot of fun and really accurate.

I have lusted over a case hardened 1873 Winchester. They are beautiful guns but pricey.
