Kind of hard not to plead guilty when they find the deer's head in HIS freezer.
I hope they hang it to him, give him the longest and the most costly fine the law is allowed to give him. I also think his weekends should alternate between a Cabela's and a Bass Pro Shop while sitting in a cage at the front door with a big sign that said "I killed Mr Buck."

Sounds like the deer didn't give up easily either.

Felony for poaching a deer? I know it's not right, and I won't defend it.
But I think that is crazy. Even a DWI is not a felony, and that's a bigger offense than poaching.

Breaking and Entering a truck by ripping the door lock out, tearing the ignition switch out of the column attempting to steal it, and then stealing whatever was loose inside the truck is a misdemeanor in Houston. It's a whacky world we live in.

my opinion is based more on a human versus animal idea.
yes he did damage the fence, yes the deer had a value. But he did not injure nor endanger a PERSON. he basically stole a deer.
he should definitely get some jail time, but if he gets more than a couple years i will be disgusted.
i know people who were found guilty of sexual assault to a child who got to serve their sentences on the weekends.
but since the deer was so "beloved" and the case made the news, there will be an outcry of sympathy for the deer and they will give him the max....or thats the way it seems to usually go.

I guess that it is so hard to actually catch a poacher, that when one is caught he is to be made an example of as a deterent.
If you know going into a potential poaching situation that if you get caught, you will be doing some serious jail time, it might make you think twice. Is it really going to be worth it?

I wonder if this guy intended to eat the deer? He must have been hopped up on something.

But I think that is crazy. Even a DWI is not a felony, and that's a bigger offense than poaching. I agree, should be a Class A misdemeanor. But I think the reason they did this is because it needed to have teeth. A misdemeanor is not quite the deterrent of never being able to own a gun again that a felony is. But yes I agree, there are some pretty crazy laws.
