Okay guys I've been talking with a couple of our member outfitters about setting up a weekend group hunt 12 - 13 Dec 09. This will be a guided hunt with 4 groups of 4 or 5 hunters. Ideally we need 12 more hunters to fill a 16 men group. Details will follow shortly, but I know this will be on private property in NE Texas.

We are working on lodging, and a GTG location.

The game plan is to have a BBQ/GTG on Friday evening, then hunt Saturday, Clean birds, relax they rest of the day and hunt again on Sunday. Chime in with your ideals

The Location is The Glass Ranch. Here is some information on the Ranch, Check out www.redlegoutfitters.com

The Glass Ranch consist of several large DU wetland areas that are managed specifically for waterfowl. Each morning ducks will flock to these wetlands in large numbers to feed. In addition to the wetlands the ranch also has several large lakes that support good amounts of puddle ducks and divers. There are also many smaller ponds and bottomland areas on the ranch that ducks will find throughout the season. This place is a waterfowl mecca that is a duck hunters dream!

You can rest assured that when you book a hunt at the Glass Ranch you will be hunting a spot that has not been shot out or over pressured. Each location is rested for several days before and after each hunt.

There are many different ways to hunt ducks on this ranch. One day you might be laying in a ground blind in shooting decoying ducks in a flooded field, the next day you might find yourself standing behind a tree watching ducks fall into the timber, and the next day you might be sipping coffee in a comfortable duck blind.

The cost for this two day hunt will be $250.00 or $130 per day. All members wanting two days will be added to the list first, then the rest will be filled first come. Lodging is NOT included. I have a list of motels located in Paris Texas. As you guys know this is the weekend after the split, so it's a prime hunting time, seeing how the ducks and ranch has been rested during the split, so we need to get our deposits in quickly as we can, (more later on this)

On Friday afternoon we'll meet at the Ranch for a GTG/BBQ, we have the use of a ranch house with Kitchen, covered area, Fire Ring for our GTG. This will not be open for lodging use, just kitchen. At the GTG we'll be grouped up for the morning hunt, you'll get a chance to meet your guides after they complete the evening scouting trip. Your guide are The Ranch owner,duckiller, WhiskeyandMe and others as needed. The ranch has leased properties in the area if need be, depending on where the ducks are. Decoys are provided by the ranch.

Hummm Dogs, we are going to need to know who is bring a dog, and remember we don't need 12 dogs...... Guess we can work this out between now and then.


After the Saturday morning hunt, we'll meet back at the ranch and clean birds, and have lunch. Then those that want to can fish in a couple of stocked lakes on the ranch, ( Bring your own fishing gear ), or shoot clays, or hunt hogs. They will have baited stands in place for hog hunting. DEER ARE OFF-LIMITS There is no extra charge for fishing or hogs hunting, and no kill fees, but your on you own as for cleaning the hogs.


Saturday evening we'll meet back at the ranch to be paired up with our guides for Sunday mornings hunt. Cook again if needed

Sunday after our hunt we'll meet back at the ranch, clean the Mallards and break down/ clean up the area.

Food is not provided, so we each need to chime in with what you are going to bring for eats

Talked to Duckiller last night about the event...

I think that we are going to have a "GREAT" time!

Typically there is a good push of birds that move in this time of year...so I think we should do pretty good!!!!!!

Duckiller said there is plenty of places to hunt, and we can spread out, and hunt different places, and if need to hunt totally different places on the next day, or hunt some of the same...just depends on the birds...

We will be north of Paris (from what I know) and I have hunted up there for years...

Ok,I see I'm on the list. I may be coming or going from someplace else hunting related and will have my dog with me. Though I will have my dog, it is likely I will not use her. Could leave her at camp during the actual hunting. So don't count her as one of the dogs if it causes someone else to have to leave theirs at home.

I don't know how I missed this post, dang it all. Am I correct in thinking this is opening of the split?

With a little 4 month old baby at home I had to promise not to hunt as much this year so I'm trying to make the most of the days I do hunt.

I am very excited about this hunt. From it's location alone it has potential to be an annual deal for me since I have in-laws in Sherman.

Yea the area is prime. My buddy has a lease up north of Paris, and it makes me sick to see how much water they have in that area compared to down this way. I'm sure we can expect bags like this at a minimum

Hillbilly I just went and read your original post... I'll more than likely have to work Friday night and will miss the GTG, but I should get off around 10ish and I think that puts me there around 3-4ish. So as far as putting groups together you can just throw my buddy and I with whoever. We don't mind...

I’m not going to be able to make it for Saturday morning's hunt, my kids have a piano recital that morning. I can make it Saturday afternoon, and Sunday hunt. Is that ok? If I’m taking up a 2 day slot not a problem I will just have to pass on this one.

Ed I was thinking the same thing. I was planning on taking my camper and staying at a state park near Paris, but my brother sold the camper right before duck season for a boat. Still thinking about the same but with tents now or splitting a hotel room but money is tight for us younguns although we'll only need 1 night.

Hope this THF hunt is as fun as last years...hopefully yall will get into more birds.

I have not made plans yet, I was gonna book a room where you guys book. I'm just doing Sunday morning hunt, but was planning on getteing there Sat afternoon to have a few beers with you guys and dinner.

I told Bob this but just as a heads up. I have to work that Friday night and won't leave Austin till around 10 or so. So my guests and I will make it for the Sat. hunt but not the GTG Fri. evening.

Okay, Bob originally was setting this up and it kinda just fell in my lap so I don't have any plan on all of this and in fact it was likely I would have been coming from or leaving for hunting someplace else before or after the hunt there. It is up to the group what we do.

I do not know the status of the hog hunting. It kind of fell through the cracks as far as discussion goes, but I think we were suppossed to have let redleg know who wanted to Hog hunt in advance.

Lodging again, up to the y'all. Bob was planning on bringing a big tent and I think some of the guys were planning on staying with him, but realize Bob is no longer going. So anyone that was staying in his tent are now on their own. With Bob camping I was just going to hang out there and live out of my truck and tent as I usually do. There is a cabin that the guides are staying in and a barn across the road, both of which have area to camp close by and have water and electric.

Those wanting to do a Hotel. The hotels on the north loop in Paris are within 10 minutes of the ranch. Holiday Inn Express, Days Inn, Laquinta Inn, Hampton Inn, Budget Inn...thats a few of them.

Originally wanted was a group of 16 men. That being 16 for each day. At this point after finding out who mailed deposits we got wittled down to only 10 spots each day. Waiting to hear back from QuackAttacker06 on his status. He had been on the road doing his country music gig and just got word about the situation.

Can you ask the Guides/Outfitters if we need a stand for our dogs?

Sounds like fun, little far for me though.

It really isn't that bad. Several of us are driving up from the Austin area. I show about 8 hours from Corpus.

If it turns out a well as we hope it would be worth it.

Directions to the ranch:

Take 271 north out of Paris. Go 7 or 8 miles and take a right at the Exxon on CR 2648. Go 3 or 4 miles and take another right at 44250. There is a sign for Long Cemetary on that road. The cabin is the last house on the left before you get to the cemetary.

Schedule:

Friday evening all hunters are welcome to come and hang out at the ranch. The grill will be hot if you would like to bring something to cook.

Saturday we will meet at the cabin at 5 am sharp for the mornings hunt.

Satuday evening those that wish to fish or hog hunt are welcome to do so.

After dark on Saturday the ranch owner will be serving a steak dinner.

Sunday morning we will meet at the cabin at 5 am to leave for the hunt.

That place is 14 miles from my dad's place.

How was it?!

I think the first day total was 54 or 56.

Today was alot tougher. One group that had three people limited out. I hunted with my dad, Sniper John, and Guy. I shot the only duck in our group which was a Greenhead.

Yeah it was 53 ducks Saturday and it must have been 20 today because one group got a 3 man limit, you got that drake today and I got the only duck in my group today which was a gadwall drake.
