Derek do you like the Sta Green T13 better than the APF T13?

I just dumped 120# of the Sta Green this week.

Same thing. 99% sure it's a APF private label and the only thing they changed to call it their own is they changed the Sulphur to 9% vs 11%. I'll check the label tonight to confirm but other than that I believe it's the exact same ingredients.

Payne it is the exact same with a minor sulphur different assuming you’ve using the yellow APF bag. They do have a product called Garden Basket 13-13-13 that is different with some added micros but I’ve never seen in any store before and only seen the yellow bag. This is the yellow sds and pic of the Sta Green. Same ingredients. So get whichever you can find cheaper. Most people have a Lowes close and easier to source the Sta Green.

Yeah, I usually use the yellow bag APF from the feed store. Had to get some of the Sta Green from Lowes this year. 7$ a bag difference, SG was ten pounds lighter and Lowes is an hour away., triple oof.

Slight change of direction. I started manually removing the crabgrass and dallis grass. What I found was budding burmudagrass even where the SA was before ... but not much where the burmuda was before ... because that part is still all weeds. First pic shows what I pulled. And note I pulled this much last week too. Hard to tell but the second pic is burmudagrass under where I pulled weeds. I'm going to keep pulling but in the meantime I am going to seed it all (on this side) with burmuda and feed it a little too. There's a little bit of St. Augustine barely trying to show down under the crepe myrtle but I am ready to just treat the north yard as burmusagrass.

How long would you use this 13-13-13 Derek? Still the same application once a month for this season until the preemergent? Yard is green now and the weeds are flourishing haha. Feel like I go pick a Walmart bag full and two days later it looks like I did nothing.

All season. Picking weeds is worthless and a waste of time unless you're talking about a few here and there. Get ready to fert and mow your [censored] off. You might need a quality spray and pray company to control what you have for weeds and take it from there.

I spent less than three hours pulling weeds and cleared 2/3 of one section of yard where I found grass underneath which means I am way ahead at a much lower cost (both time and money) than I thought. I put down some seed and some chemicals based on a slightly modified version of the advice above. I should see results by this weekend.

Pass the gravy.

Fun times ahead then! I got some stuff from the feed store yesterday to fill some patches in that weren't growing. Wonder if there's a spray and pray I can buy at the store instead of paying a company?

What did you get at the feed store to fill in patches? There are a couple of decent spray and pray products on the market. All depends on what weed(s) you're targeting

I got a bag of Scotts Thick'r Lawn. Said it provided seeds, compost and fertilizer. Hopefully I didn't waste my money but I'll keep you posted on how it does.

Don't do that lol. I looked at the Scotts label and I don't see it speced what seed is in it. The sun part will be bermuda. You have freshly laid sod. Could be your basic common bermuda or could be Tif 419. What you seeded from Scotts is your basic cheap bermuda seed. If your Sod is 419 you will probably see a color and texture difference from the sod and the seeded area. Not end of the world stuff. I have 419 and common mixed in some spots and able to blend it in pretty well. Wait until your grass is growing really good like late May. Get a pro plugger and pull plugs from the good areas and plug into the bare areas. Just backfill the plug holes you pulled from with sand and they will fill in fast.

Dang it so you're saying I wasted $40 lol. That's what I get for getting bored on a Sunday before the back 9 of the Masters. I mean I just did it Sunday, there's still a chance I can rake it all out right?

Is anybody running wide zero turns? 104" ? Bat wing 120", 144" ???

If so what brands and models?

I'm tired of mowing for 3 hours with a 61" Skag and want to speed things up.

How and sq foot did you do? I honestly wouldn't worry too much about it. I'll look into and see if I can find the shade seed in the mix. It shouldn't be too hard to kill that off and you have bermuda left.

Barely any at all. I'd say probably 3 squares of sod worth. 95% of it in the back yard anyways.

Oh yeah. Don't worry about that at all then.

I have virtually given up on st augustine.

I have a very shady front yard. What do people think about Zoysia? Also, is that something you can seed or only Sod?

What is wrong with St Augustine? As we speak I am having some put under trees in the front yard.

I am just so tired of fighting disease. From what I have read Zoysia is more disease, shade, and drought tolerant.

"Very shady" scares me. Does it get any sun or can you trim up the trees some to raise the canopy? If you could get 4 hours of sun that would be great. You might call around to some sod dealers and see if they have Emerald or Zeon. If they would sell you a few squares you could do a test plot this season and see how it goes before dumping a lot of money on a whole new sod install and it doesn't go well. Lot of lawn guys I have talked to like Emerald. They say it does better the less you do to it. Mow, water and low fert inputs.

Hey Derek when would you say is the latest time to sand? I have some low spots in a certain portion of the yard I want to take care of but don't want to do it if it's too late.

You have a large date window in TX. Now until probably mid/late August or so. Growth is rocking right now and I'd try and get it down in May before the heat really sits in and you're dying of heat stroke trying to sand.
