I had a 2200, and when all this weather showed up, I bought two 2800i Honda units. And a whole bunch of gasoline. Those generators start on the first or second pull, even at 3 degrees. One has been running 24 hours a day for maybe 5 days now (heck, what day IS this). Not a problem of any sort. I am so very impressed with this gear.

When I got back home with a couple of generators, I thought my wife was gonna kill me, but she didn’t. She helped me put them in position, and they aren’t lightweight. Sure glad I married a tough country girl. And we aren’t exactly ‘spring chickens’ anymore.

When winter leaves officially, I might sell one of the 2800i units.

Today the high will be above freezing. Imagine that. Till today it’s been colder than an ex-wife’s heart...

As with many things gear related, they are pricey but worth it.

What can you say it's a Honda. They have always made good stuff. My SXS is a 2016 Honda Pioneer best SXS I've ever owned. Even in -4 degrees weather 2 days ago it fired right up to go chop water for the cows.

I was running one Honda EU2000i here at the house and it was working well but I wanted just a little bit more power. We ran out to the farm and picked up the Honda 2k companion genset and cabled the two together. We had lights, two HVAC units, TV's, internet, fridge, freezer, microwave, toaster, etc.

Honda small engines are the best I’m aware of. They do not make junk. What most don’t know is the make more than generators and lawn mowers. Look at the Honda 4 stroke weed eater. I can’t fathom that reliability in a weedeater.

Love my Honda generators. Have 2 eu2000i’s, one of which is Tri fuel converted and replaced a non inverter Westinghouse at the ranch with a 3000i this past year after installing a soft start capacitor on the A/C so the 3000 easily runs the root top unit.

20 years ago I had a side-hustle of refurbishing/selling used generators.
Upon exiting that biz, I kept hold of one 'ol Honda EB3000 that I latched onto for $50 - it just needed a carb cleanout and some new receptacles.

For 20 years, I've dragged that thing along thru two moves:
- sitting in storage never used once,
- almost ignored (I did drain fuel & treat tank w/rust protect),
- and still needing it's carb cleaned-out.

So Tuesday at lunchtime, I braved the 15degrees outside and gave her the long due carb cleanout, replace the fuel-line & oil - filled the empty tank.
One squirt of starting fluid and one pull,
and this 40yr old Honda ran for the next three hours bringing warmth back to my family by powering the blower on our propane furnace!

Can't go wrong w/ a Honda Gen! up

A new 5000 watt Honda is on the way here to work along with my two old eu2000i that just keep going. We have been without power since Sunday night and both of them have been purring along the whole time. The new one should arrive late next week. We've been getting by with 4,000 watts, but more is better.

I’ve got a Honda EX2200 I bought back in mid 80’s. Last started October of last year, drained tank for storage. Got it out Monday and put in fresh fuel. Dang it if the fuel started leaking bad from the petcock. bang turned of the gas and put back in the garage. Got out another 3500 watt yellow generator, shot of starting fluid and it was up and running. Brought microwave and toaster into garage. Cooked some bacon and toast for BLT. Then back inside to hang by the wood stove. .

I was reading about possible rolling blackouts a month ago and bought a generator at Lowe's.
Haven't needed it but if I do, it's here.

My best friend sent me an email saying that he ordered a Honda 5000 watt generator as a gift to me. I do not know which one he ordered.

I have a Honda EM1600 that is about 30 years old, and still as reliable as the day I got it. Use it for lending to friends for remote camping, and it has a dedicated storage right next to my freezer. Check it and test run once per year, change gas out, and change oil every couple hundred hours of operation. The past couple of RV's have had 4000 watt Onan generators, and no problems ever with them either.

Gotcha. If it's the one I mentioned above then the reviews are pretty good. It can pretty much power your entire house.

Actually you can't go wrong with any of the Honda brand generators.

Another vote for Honda’s. I’ve got a 3000is I use to run out deer lease camper and around the house. Very reliable, quiet and worth every penny.

So you are able to choose your fuel source if you want to run gas, LP, or nat gas? Is there any downside to a switchover?

My dad Bought a Coleman generator with an 18HP Briggs opposed twin, not sure how old it is probably at least 20 years old. I finally had to do a repair on it the other day, the anti afterfire solenoid quit working and they're NLA. , simple fix to grind the plunger off and it just becomes a plug.

Few years ago, my research led me to a Honda 2800i. The 2000 would stagfer when hitting the trigger onna circular saw, many reported. The 3000 is a 150 pound machine. No doubt a really high quality piece of equipment. But, I wanted to be able to move the generator to truck, trailer and Mule quickly, by hand. Yeah, I can do 150 pounds, but too many times of that is not good on an already sore back. The 2800i is 18" x 18" x 18" and under 80 pounds. Whole lotta power in a small package.

My thinking has always been if Honda's name is on it, it is good equipment.

And do a search on engine break-in procedures. Honda does not publish one. I searched, and it led me to a forum like this one. It was food truck guys that use generators every day. One guy had a really good break-in procedure.

Low quality Pennzoil for 5 minute idle, 5 minute 50% load, 5 minute 100% load, 5 minute idle. Drain the oil.
Full synthetic Mobile-1, ^^same process^^ drain the oil.
Full synthetic Mobile-1, run it an 8 hour day under various load. Drain the oil.
Full synthetic Mobile-1, run as needed. Change the oil every 100 hours.
