School me on these things. I've never dealt with them and never felt the need to have them. But with the way things are going these days I've been thinking of adding some cameras and a recording system. Would like to go wireless but really have no idea what is best.

Wireless will have to deal with changing batteries and not be able to put them up high, since you will have to access them. Many of my cams are up high on the inside/outside of my house.

I am on my 3rd camera system in the last 12 years, I upgrade due to technology getting better, I was at 1080 and then went to HD and then to 4K.

I had Lorex from Costco for my first two cameras, I was pretty happy with them but going to HD was a big difference from 1080.

I installed an Eyeonet camera system last year, pretty impressed with the system. The guy who takes care of my TV's and computer and internets system and security system recommended it, he installs them in a lot of business.

I had wires ran thru my houses when I first got my camera years ago, so all I have to do now is just change the cams and DVR. I have 11 cams set up inside and outside.

I would recommend either the Lorex or Eyeonet system, FLIR can be picked up at Costco at a pretty good price. I have never had a camera go bad.

They are nice to have I even have a cam set up in my garage to make sure I don't leave one of my garage door open when I leave, and they are nice to be able to check in on your pets during the day also.

How long do good batteries last? I'm retired so I have more time than good sense!

I use 1080P cameras that are recorded 24/7. 365. These are great during the day, fair at night

You can spend a lot more money and get much better night time pics

I also have 3 Ring cameras that send a motion message and pics to my phone

We have been very happy with the Ring cameras. I could monitor my house and even talk to someone from anywhere in
the world, I had phone service, or even better, internet service. When we were in New Zealand a couple years ago
it worked great

If you want great nighttime video, it is pretty expensive, but for sure, very important in identifying perps.

Otherwise, the cheaper cameras will show you what happened, but not likely be able to ID someone

The caveat to the ID part is that most of these hood rats are wearing face coverings and hoodies, so your not
going to be able to do very well with ID anyway.

A lot depends on settings and activity but seems like I changed mine every 6-8 weeks.

I have Arlo and love it. Put a solar panel on it, always charged.

We have full Ring system and have been very happy so far. They just need a power source and Wi-Fi.

The quality of pics dont make any difference ---------- TILL YOU NEED THEM --- wireless is a waste of time. I have 2 businesses with 4 different sets of cameras, all from SCW,,, about 40 cameras total. I have tried buying from Costco, Sam's and Best Buy ---------------- all of my systems now come from SCW (https://www.getscw.com/) ---- unmatched quality, and service. Not cheap, but as I said,,, that is not important till you need the quality. They will set it up so you can view on your phone if you want to. Here is a pic where I stopped the movie and took a still shot out , to give you an idea.

I've gone through several systems. The "true" wireless one's SUCK! Upload speed, viewing, etc, is S L O W. The current system I have is also wireless and in the cloud. The cameras are VERY high quality, and provide very good detailed images, night or day. But pulling up videos on my desk top is very slow. The wireless portion has to upload the images/video, and it takes about 20-40 seconds each time. But video quality is good once it's loaded. My next system will be hard wired for speed and easy access.

If the system you are looking at is wireless, ask questions about down load speed and speed when navigating through the browser. Some are better than others, but all the wireless one;s I've seen were slow. And go with the best HD cameras you can find.

I know a family that had Ring. Someone hacked into it and was watching their child’s bedroom and then began talking and questioning the child through the camera. Scary stuff!
