I found his left shed today, which means he made it through the season. I'll be dreaming about how much bigger he'll be this year. And am very happy he got to spread those genes throughout last season as well. I know he's no monster. But very respectable for Freestone County. So what say ye? How old to you figure he is? Jay

when were those pics taken... if they are early season I would lean towards 3.5, at the end of season I would lean 4.5 just based off the first pic.

+1 on 3.5. Smart to let him get a year older.

2.5 to 3.5
Distance from eyes to nose is much longer than distance from eyes to bottom jaw. thats a pretty good sign he is no more than 3.5

I agree. I don't think he's older than 3. He still has that long nose. his back isn't showing much drop either. I'd say he's about one more season to prime. Good looking deer. Keep him fat and happy so he doesn't jump the fence.

Not much chance of that. We're only on 130 acres. Hopefully he's smart enough to stay out of everyone's sight but mine.
I was thinking 3.5 myself.
Jay

Nice buck, but I can't tell. I know he is not a baby, and I know he is not real mature. Anything more than that I suck at.

If he is feeder fed his whole life then he is 3.5.
If he has grown up eating natural forage than he's 4.5.
If he's a breeder buck on a breeding farm then he's 1.5
If he's on my property then he's dead.

Wheres your lease at in freestone? I have a lease in freestone county by buffalo. I would think its about 3.5. But it might be 2.5 my father in law killed a 2.5 last year that looked similar.

Were east of Teague. Hunting Family land, I refer to as "the farm". I actually hunted him exclusively last year. Pass on this buck the second week of season in hopes of getting an opportunity on the ten. If I see him, he's getting an arrow or lead flung his way. Probably either on this year. If the 8 made it Too, he should be looking a little better as well. From the pic above, he's only 2.5 to 3.5. Jay

Body and neck say 4.5, but the antlers say 3.5. I'd say he had a good summer last year and he's 3.5. If you don't have to worry about neighbors shootin' him let him go another year. If you can.

i say that if its a eight at 3.5 then take it, if its a 10 of that size at 3.5(I think hes 3.5) those are the ones that should be protected. every year they are protected and you take an eight point instead its a 2way swing on genetics and the 10point gets to breed

At best 3.5, legs and shoulder not fully developed. Needs to be saved next year as well. Never ever judge antler size to determine age. If you realy want the full potiential of this trophy wait wait wait wait until he's 5.5. He will not let you down in two years.
If he's 2.5, WOW and again you won't be dissapointed if you take him as a 4.5

This is a wise buck. He is already traveling by night. He looks like he will score around 129 or so. I would shoot him next year before the rut if at all possible. The meat will not be as chewy if you shoot him before the rut.

That is a 2.5 yr old Buck, The rump is not developed at all, the neck is still slender like a doe, give him 2-3 more yrs to be a good mature buck, if he is there a more mature buck is present, hunting feeders you may never see the big mature buck in the area feeders are good for attracting the does which bring the bucks close, but not necessarily in the open. I have my feeder in the open about 10 yrds. off the brush line then my blind is in he brush to where i can see the feeder and in the brush as well it has been working extremely good for those mature deer

My best guess would be 3 years. But, I might change my mind after I ground checked him!
