to FLY’s and SKINNERS. Not sure if the youngsters even do this anymore. If you didn’t have enough players to make two teams you played FLY’s and SKINNERS. As I can best remember in our hood, 3 skinners equal 1 fly. You needed 6 FLY’s to take the bat. That sound about right?

I played flies and skinners as a kid. Three skinners equals one fly. Can't believe that's been 50 years ago!

Sounds like I should be old enough to know what you’re talking about, but have no clue. When and where did you grow up?

During my youth I lived in 4 towns in Texas, this is one I have never heard of.

What do 4 boys who want to play baseball do? They play flies and skinners! There is a hitter and 3 fielders. The object of the game is to be the hitter. The fielders get to be the hitter by catching flies, fly balls, and skinners, ground balls. Usually it took 3 flies and 6 skinners to become the hitter. We played in the street which was rough since the street went down hill and the ball was hit down hill, and the ground balls "screamed" down the hill on the pavement and you might have to jump a curb if a fly went into a yard.

We also did the bike rides, it was about 8 miles to the Dyess AFB pool so we rode our bikes there. One grandmother lived about 6 miles away, the other about 75 miles away. The last one took a full day of hard riding, but had relatives in Winters and Ballinger to stop at.

That's the way we did it, played it also when we had more than two teams at school or some function.

Born and raised in Austin. Was once a nice college and state govt town before the liberal cancer. Anyway, I've peddled all over the city plus trips out to Spicewood springs and Bull creek for swims and rope swinging into the water. Now I'm a fat, old man. What the heck happened? Oh, and have never heard of "flies and skinners". Is that a yankee thing?

I have family all over that part of the country too. Know any Demere's, Linthicum's or Herring's?

Same here. And lots of playground tackle football without helmets.

We - me and three brothers played skinners and flies when we did not have enough for “scrubb”
Ever played scrubb. Batter rotated into field when put out and fielder came in to bat.
Only two batters with everyone else in field.

Haha I remember hearing that name too. That was a heck of a good, clean game. One safety rule, no head shots, especially with the racket ball. Knock people out that way. The tennis balls were much more forgiving. Everyone knew who had the cannon for an arm after one game. roflmao
