They have 3 man skeet, 5 man five stand and 5 man sporting clays both Wednesday and Thursday nites. Either contact James LaChance via the website ( www.elmfork.com ) or post your email address, I have a copy of the email he sent out yesterday. Starts at 6pm but will allow you to shoot anytime after 5pm.

Have they renovated their skeet fields? Last time I was out there they were in pretty poor shape. And the machines were breaking more clays than they should. For the prices they charge you would think it would be a show place.

AT - I don't shoot skeet so I can't really give you an honest opinion. When the sporting clays or 5 stand was full I did shoot a couple of rounds one day and we didn't have any problems. The houses are far from run down so not sure what you are asking there.

Actually, I have only shot sporting clay (the full course) 2 times in my life, I did once last year with a forum member, and the other time was the THF tournament I did last month. If you remember I originally wanted to do skeet for the THF tournament, but most everyone else wanted to do sporting clay so I changed the venue based on forum feedback.
The only other time I shot sporting clay was me and my son this off season, we shot one round (25 targets), and the only reason we did that was because there was a waiting list for skeet. And this is a good segway to your point about them being “over priced”. From a business/economic prospective, that makes no sense. Prices are “market driven”, show up there 10:00 on Saturday for a skeet field, and most likely you will be on a wait list. A lower price would just mean a longer wait, and most likely less revenue for the business, maybe you forgot they are a business trying to maximize profit which is a concept that makes America tic.

Then they should clean up their facility. And by cleaning up I mean level out your dang skeet pads and spend a little money on routine maintenance for the throwers. Nothing like shooting of a pad that is broken in half and set in the ground at a 40 degree angle.
I would have no problem with the price IF they actually spent a little money keeping the skeet fields in repair.

I was out there this morning, shot a round of sporting clays.. the meadows course was closed due to the tournament next weekend but the facility looked nice as always. I am new to skeet but I enjoy it, any league for beginers?

Don't quote me as I don't shoot skeet leagues but I believe it was $17 per week for 2 rounds. It might be cheaper...I know sporting clays are $19 per week.
If you don't have a team contact James, he will put you with some other guys who don't have a team. I haven't met anyone out there that wasn't nice so it would be a great way to meet new friends.

Really, 40 degree angle?
Ever heard of Defamation? You better make sure you have your fact strait when start trashing a business, and that is just a piece of advice. 
That place is also in flood zone, and spends many days a year under water.

Prove it ain't so! Go measure them. If they are all flat and in one piece then I will be amazed. But you know as well as I do that ain't so.
And yes being in a flood zone and the last big flood a few years ago did do some damage to the fields that has not been repaired or at least not repaired last time I was there.

Maybe you're not aware of the money they had to spend after the flood 2 years. After having to rebuild almost their entire facility, the least I would worry about was bad concrete to stand on to shoot skeet. 5 stand and sporting clays are their bread and butter. Yes, they will spend more money on that. If it was your business, I think you would too! If their houses are throwing bad birds, call the # on the back of the controller and have them fix it. That's what they are there for. And what's wrong with their price? 8 bucks for a round of skeet seems about average. Sporting clays is what is expensive.$32.00 bucks for a full round? Then if your lazy, $ 10.00 apiece for a cart. All this is JMO but I don't mind the prices, they are a lot closer than Alpine, and unless you earn 6 figures, who can afford Dallas Gun Club. They have a great place. Shot several tournaments there. Try them, they ARE perfect!

What is the trap range like at the DGC? I shoot rifle and pistol sometimes at Elm Fork, and like it well enough, within the limitations of a highly structured 100 yard range.
Trap shooting is almost non-existent though. I've never tried sporting clays or 5 stand; EF seems to be focused on 5 stand, from what I can tell.

I am sure the DGC stuff is nice but for a 5K dollar initiation fee + required monthly fee it better be. They actually have a trap and hellice league that I thought about shooting that is open to the public. Oh and by the way do not shoot sporting clays because I honestly think crack is cheaper

FC, you make a good point. Elm fork prices are: Skeet/Trap - $8.50 round, $7.50 if you buy 10 round discount card 5 Stand - $8.95 round, $7.95 with 10 round discount card Sporting Clay price per 25 target round (apple-to-apples) is - $13, based on 50 target game - $10.73, based on 100 target game - $8.88. based on 1000 targets for $355 So sporting clay, factoring in max disounts, is only a $1 or $1.50 more per round.

First Chance....while I understand what you are saying you don't factor in tipping the trapper that they require at Alpine. I also am not a fan of the trapper being sent with you I much prefer the counter at Elm Fork so I can go at my own pace. While the Alpine trappers don't rush you I always feel rushed. It is all me, I just feel like the longer I take the less people they can take out and get tips from.
I have shot at Alpine and also shot a tournament out there. I will shoot there again at a tournament but for regular shooting I much prefer Elm Fork, Fossil Pointe (in Slidell) or Rose City (in Tyler).
On a side note Alpine does have a nice pro shop that is normally well stocked even in the times of little ammo or reloading supply shortages.

I wasn't trying to turn this into a "which range is better" thread... i like shooting at them all, and they are all different in their respects, and really, it's how you look at things. A tractor ride with my buddy's with a puller/scorer costs me $5 (that's what we all tip) a cart at Alpine costs $10/ea... i like being able run out after work, shoot a round and still get home in time for dinner.
no big sweat eaither way... I just like to shoot every chance I get.

I never been to Alpine, but yeah that would bug me too. At Elm Fork Sporting Clay, we will bounce around different stations. If one station is busy, we will just go to the next one, or if we want to take a break, we take one and let folks pass thru.

It's too bad Backwoods is gone, it was much better than Elm Fork. Better prices, nicer people.
I like to shoot the course, but after shells it costs $100 at Elm Fork. It's fun, but IMO $100 is too much for an hour of fun.
