All stages completed and signed by Perry.

I suppose TPWD now has to iron out some regs by Sept 1st. Scope, No Scope? Minimum Poundage? etc.

Not during archery season you couldn't. I have no problem with folks with disabilities hunting with a crossbow during archery season. I do have a problem with folks who are too lazy to put in the time becoming proficient with a bow getting to pull out a crossbow for 5 weeks during archery season.

So are gun hinters LAZY ALL season long. We all need to stay unified regardless of the "method" used to hunt.

Cool. I would rather hunt w/ a compound and had previously thought getting the permit to hunt w/ one was easy, but to each his/her own. I don't neccessarily think those hunting with them are lazy, but I remember when I was a kid, flinging countless arrows out of a recurve & compound really monopolized my time. Kept me out of a lot of trouble.

Now my wife can bow hunt with me. She couldn't ever draw back a compound.

Nope. I don't have anything against gun hunters at all. I don't have anything against folks who hunt with a crossbow either. I do, however, have a problem with allowing folks to hunt with a crossbow during archery season. I would have the same feeling if they did away with archery only and started open season at the beginning of October. In either case I don't have any say so in what Austin decides on these issues. This bill was nothing more than crossbow manufacturers pushing their agenda. I don't like it. That is my right. You do. That is yours.

You have to have a note from a doctor on your person, which I was thinking about getting but I don't have to think about it much now.

You aren't going to be killing any more deer than your County will allow so what is the problem whether you kill them with a compound bow, crossbow, rifle, shotgun, pistol or whatever? Personally, I will hunt with my bow until I can no longer draw back but it is good to know that when that happens, I can still hunt the archery season!!!

Quailhunter i dont have a problem with you not liking crossbows but do have a problem with being called lazy if i wanted to hunt with one. Like was said before you cant kill any more deer than before the rule and having a CHOICE on anything is always better than no choice at all. My wife will probably get a crossbow and maybe my daughter to but i sure wouldnt call them lazy cause they cant pull back a compound bow. My 2 cents worth and now i will shut up.

Quailhunter: I have nothing to prove because I've killed more deer with my compound over the years than I can remember.

Not everyone has the same physical capabilities, or time for that matter, and I'm pretty sure Quailhunter doesn't hunt exclusively with a longbow, as that takes dedication, and practice to master, so maybe he takes the easy way out and only hunts with a compound that has 75% letoff, and hunting out of an enclosed pop-up as most bowhunters do!

Due to my age and worn out joints I welcome the use of the crossbow, so call me lazy, whatever, but just remember if you live long enough, what goes around, comes around!

One more thing I would like to add.

I've been preaching Crossbow for several years, even when I was still able to draw my compound knowing that some day I'd have to lay it down, and even got kicked off the Texas Bowhunters Forum, and a nasty email from the owner because I preached in favor of the crossbow.

So now all the naysayers I have but a few words to say!....
Nah Na, Nah Na, Nah Naaaa!

The way things keep getting pushed and approved by TPWD, there may not be a "bowhunting season" Only in the state of Texas. They tried to pass an earlier child deer season this past year, encroaching on the bowhunting season. They did away with the poundage rule ect. Bowhunters as we know them may be a thing of the past.

So what is a Bowhunter as we know them?

You can pick up a bow and hunt all year even during the gun season and (gasp) be successful.

I hunted exclussively with a bow for around 15 years with the gun hunters next door, and still killed deer.

Who would've thought?

Happy birthday by the way!

Well for one Month, October it use to be/is a bowhunters domain in Tx. As far as picking up a bow anytime during the year your correct, with alot of rifle hunters in the mix. Rifle and bowhunters just don't seem to mix well, for obivious reasons. I think that is why in the past few years bowhunting only ranches and leases have really taken off. What a rifle hunter can do out to 300 yards the bowhunter is limited to 30. I just think if more changes keep coming to bowhunting, it will just be a dead issue and we will loose many hunters in the whole.

So how much further will a cross bow shoot? Is it faster? I guess I dont see what the big deal is unless you can shoot em out to 100 or something. People had to be upset when compound bows came out didnt they?

We will have to agree to disagree, as I see it completely opposite, in that it opens up the sport of hunting to even more, and that will only strengthen our numbers and support.

We will see, and also there is nothing wrong in my opinion with having a youth season even if it takes up the so called bow only season as that is where our future lies.

Also the fact that most land is private, and the landowner has the final say on what is allowed to be taken, and by what means, so what the state dictates is a moot point when it comes right down to it!
