rofl Good to see you around.

Con carne, along with many others have come and gone. A new group has moved in but they aren't as much fun as we were, they aren't all bad though.

I don't think there is a soul in this world that could keep you out of "jail" rofl

It was kind of a bizarre turn, in my opinion, but Sapper pretty well summed it up.

Keeping this thread alive...

Im 29, 511 235 lbs I think? Not sure. Used to be 310 so Ill take it. No kids. Engaged.

Born & raised Midlothian, TX...and hated every minute. It was somewhere between a small town and suburb in my high school years. Grew up in the shadow of my grandfather (former mayor & land developer) and my father (rental property owner & former city council/planning & zoning member). I never thought much of it but when my classmates parents would pay rent to my dad or installments to my grandfather, life was different as a kid. I just wanted my own identity. Never really fit in during high school and spent most of my time working...actually stop working the family business (rental properties) at 17 because it didnt pay as well as my lawn business. I tutored a few classmates to pass TAKS testing and later gave them some work mowing grass with me over three counties (Ellis, Johnson, Dallas). That one guy cost me more in a day than his pay but I paid him anyway.

I was accepted into Texas A&M and immediately knew it was where I was headed. First generation Aggie. Dad is an SMU Mustang. Sister is a UT Longhorn. I just wanted out of the shadows. At Texas A&M, I found my group. I co-founded a diesel truck club and served as president for 4 years. It was mostly a cold beverage drinking organization but we also traveled and competed in dyno competitions or drag races. Yes I was one of the idiots blowing black smoke...and also made 608 hp at the wheel in 2005 Dodge 4wd Cummins. Never broke into the 11s in the quarter mile but was solid mid 12s. Quickly ran out of lawn mowing money and scraped by through graduation although I didnt live like it. (That diesel truck club still exists on Facebook 11 years later with +1000 members.)

13 days after walking the stage at Texas A&M, I reported to work at 4am. I crawled into the passenger seat of a 1993 Peterbilt with 4000 gal of diesel behind us on that bobtail. Oilfield life began. First with a frac fuel outfit and somehow quickly became Safety Director. It was there that I learned first hand how nasty oilfield fatalities are. It was also there that I learned how few in the oilfield know DOT compliance. It was like a foreign language. Quick trip (6 weeks) with an Eagleford frac sand hauler in Pleasanton. That company wasnt for me and I resigned when asked to treat employees in a way I didnt feel was right. I spent 6 more weeks mowing grass on family land in Hamilton county and just taking a breather. Tried to find a job in agriculture but they all commented I mentioned oilfield too much in my interviews to think I would stick with ag.

Back to oilfield I went and spent nearly 2 years as Safety Manager at Bridgeport Tank Truck. I had a good boss, manageable hours, and was able make a life out of it. Company executives were friendly and let me hog hunt on their land. I lived in Paradise, TX but didnt find it to be my paradise. The gloom of oil collapse was on the horizon in late 2014. I made a gutsy move and applied with a frac company in a DOT Specialist role. February 2015 I walked onto the 30th floor in downtown Fort Worth at 27 years old. Three weeks later, the layoffs began. Two people in my department were cut but not me even though I had been there only 3 weeks. We started with nearly 20 in the department and I survived layoff after layoff, downsize after downsize, and moved offices something like 5 times in 10 months. I made it to the final three in the department and was still holding on.

In November 2015, my father arrived home to find my mother in an unconscious state. Moms body fought for three weeks but in the end, mom had been gone all along. You see, my mother was a warrior. In 1994, she went into the hospital fully prepared to not return home. She beat the odds of a bone marrow transplant and lived 20+ more years. She said in 1994 that she wanted to see her kids graduate high school. She saw both of us graduate college and enjoyed the early lives of two grandchildren, my sisters kids. After her passing, we found writings describing the pain she lived with daily...but she was too strong and had fought too long to admit it. We all miss my mother daily but moms faith was very evident. Shes watching over us now.

November 2015. A VP that had been laid off called me and I asked I join him with a concrete construction company in Garland but I lived in Weatherford. My plan worked in a way - oil bust or not, DOT knowledge and application applies to multiple industries as long as it involves trucking. Garland was an 86 mile commute and I did it religiously for the money I was being paid. I couldnt convince myself to move east of I-35W. I learned the culture of concrete is worse than oilfield. It was back to a waiting game to see what was next. It didnt take long.

August 2016. I received an email asking if I would be interested in joining the team with a start-up frac company. I knew the name of owners (brothers) well. I walked back into downtown Fort Worth in September 2016 but this time on a different floor of the same building. A bright eyed brunette found her way into my life 3 days before I started working in downtown FW for the second time. In February 2017, all of my office transferred to a small town in Eastland County. I made that commute from Weatherford religiously too.

That bright eyed brunette learned to share my passion of hunting on family land in western Hamilton county and northern Mills county, an area we call Gods country. She and I made a plan. We wanted to find a way to live in Gods country and make a fair living to eventually raise a family. Well it turns out that Eastland county was the exact same distance from Gods country as it was from Weatherford. After I was granted permission to maintain an office in that small town in Eastland County, we put our plan in action.

I became a homeowner on June 28, 2017. As I write this post, a golf course fairway is practically my backyard within sight of Lake Proctor. Its late on a Friday night and shes on her way home from a football game. She became a teacher and high school cheer sponsor in 2017 as part of our plan. I am the Corporate DOT Manager for that start-up frac company in a small town just west of Eastland. I live 52 minutes from work and 45 minutes from the family land. There is 650 acres in western Hamilton county and 220 acres in northern Mills county.

That same brunette said YES on September 23, 2017. Our wedding will be on July 7, 2018. We are excited for our second deer season together. She is even open to finding a hunting adventure on the honeymoon! Come to find out, you can hunt Axis and hogs in Hawaii. Well see how that pans out.

Funny how things come together when you quit trying to force things and let God take over. I have fulfilled my life-long dream of having a good job within proximity of Gods country by age 30. And even better - I found a wonderful young lady that shares my dream. Our future is bright and its just beginning. Our best years are ahead of us.

My name is George Bowe Blitch and I am 38 years young. I am a single child, born and raised in Houston, TX. My mother and father both have ranches on either side of their families, so I grew up spending a lot of time hunting, walking around finding arrowheads, and just being outdoors. I loved it! I also had a keen interest in becoming a musician and professional soccer player. I had a few successful bands in my high school years and played competitive soccer in my youth, traveling across the country for tournaments and showcases. I ended up going to play soccer at Northeastern University in Boston. I played for a season and then switched my focus to my schoolwork, majoring in English with a minor in Secondary Education and Music Industry. After graduation, I was going to teach high school English in the inner cities of Boston, but I wasnt very happy with my experience there and decided to look elsewhere for work.

After an event I put on at my university, I teamed up with Harvey Arden, a former National Geographic writer of 23 years, and became a co-owner of a company that would travel the world and record the stories, history and traditions of Indigenous Elders, mainly Native Americans. We created LivingBooks which were multimedia enriched websites kind of an early eBook/YouTube type collaboration. I became the Media Manager of the company, and would do all the video, photography, audio recording, and web development. I ended up working with some very well known Native American Indian leaders and would often travel to various events around the country, and would take part in traditional ceremonies. I also worked in NYC once a week with a big real estate firm during that time, helping to develop their inter office software (Intranet), to sell multimillion dollar buildings. We used the same software for both companies. The NYC work kind of paid for the other company to survive.

Harvey and I eventually started our own Publishing company in early 2003, called HYT Publishing. To date, we put out 3 books and 2 audio books, one of which won a NAMMY Native American Music Awards, and we also helped produce a lot of smaller projects, stage productions, etc.

I also ended up back in Houston in 2003, and starting working as a videographer and editor with a local television show that focused on Texas events, restaurants, bands, etc. I did that for about a year before I got a job installing computer systems for doctors across the country. For the next two years I traveled to almost every state (Im at 48 now). The company hired me on to be the multimedia director, and start producing magazine and television ads, and to help our sales team generate more products and leads. That ended my traveling and had me parked a desk all day. It was a good opportunity, but I felt I wasnt going to go much further up the ladder, and it was time for a change.

Soon upon mentioning my desire to look elsewhere for work, my mother said my dad has been dying for me to come work with him. Hes been a financial advisor, mainly working with Municipal Utility Districts (MUDs) for 40 years and was about to have to start turning down business because is was so busy. I told him Id be interested in trying it out, but I wasnt sure if that was the field I wanted to work in, and I would need to be flexible with my schedule, as I was playing drums/percussion/singing in a band (called DEAD P.A. its a play on the term, Live P.A., which essentially means you are playing live electronic music) that was steadily growing in popularity, and we were touring quite a bit. That trial run went on a bit, as I am still working with my father 13 years later, which is awesome. I love being able to see him everyday and work with him. Its a great job, too.

I ended up touring in 20+ states with my band over the 8-9 years we were together. I played in small hole-in-the-wall bars, and at musical festivals that brought hundreds of thousands of people in the doors. It was a great time, but eventually my focus shifted from being a touring musician to being a family man. I met my incredible wife, Meg, at a soccer game - on the field I actually learned to play on. I was an assistant coach for my buddys step daughters team of 9 years olds. I looked across the field and saw Meg and I went an introduced myself to her after the game. Her daughter was on the team, and she was a really cool kid, so I figured the apple didnt fall far, and wanted to meet her mom. On our first date, I brought her and our mutual friends a ton of Lulings City Market BBQ from the actual Luling location. Not sure if it was the BBQ or me that she was impressed with, but that led to a next date. A year later I popped the question to the love of my life and a year after that we were married and I became an insta-dad. We end up having a little girl in 2013, so Im now the proud father of two amazing girls.

Around the time I got married, my buddy and I were mapping my familys ranches and made some pretty cool custom maps. Every time we showed them to friends and family, they would say, you should map my ranch. We took that as a sign that we could maybe sell a few a year and we started Map My Ranch. We both have kiddos and day jobs, but we love working on developing maps and being a part of the hunting community. We dont make tons of money doing it, but we really enjoy what we do. It started as a hobby and is now a nice part time job.

Ive been involved in wildlife management for over 12 years. 7 years ago, I got the take the reins of our family ranch in Central Texas, and really take wildlife management to a new level. I have a few hundred acres to work with and we have a ton of projects going on to enhance the habitat for the native species there. We did the first phase of a big project with the NRCS, to bulldoze and root plow 25 acres and then plant native grasses that were once a part of that landscape. I really want to leave behind the best place I can to my family so they can have the type of access I had to the great outdoors, for the many future generations of my family.

I still play soccer each week, and still play music with friends on occasion. I tend to spend most of my time with my family these days, and I love it. Ive been blessed with a great family, great in-laws, and great friends. I feel very blessed and appreciate each day I have above ground.

Its been really cool to learn a bit about some fellow THF members. I hope this thread continues. Thanks for starting it Sapper! Hope you all have a wonderful and safe hunting season!

~George

Going for it. Don't post much here but enjoy reading others post. Raised in Motley County with 4 brothers. Graduated 1974. We were Class B, 11 man football team. We started out at around 92 in the state and finished 3rd with head coach Stan Irvin. That year we played 9 district games with one non-district. Won them all and went to bi-district, quarter finals and finally semi-finals. We played Rule and Art Briles was their quarterback. Lost 14-12. Rule went on to play Big Sandy. Our quarter mile relay team won state that year. After a year of college at Clarendon, met my wife and been married for 43 years. One son and daughter in law, 3 grandchildren. Proud of them all. Wife is a cancer survivor since 2005 with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Unfortunately chemo did a lot of damage. But with the blessing of the good Lord she is still here. After working on a farm and on my own for years made a move to a more steady paycheck. Worked my way up to General Manager of a water district that supplies water for a small community.

Growing up watched "Emergency" every week and told my mom I one day I would be a paramedic. Few years later became an EMT, went to EMT/Special Skills and a paramedic in 1988. Sideline as a paramedic here and in Ballinger. One of my calls was on "Impact, Stories of Survival".

Born again Christian. Teach Men's Sunday School class, going on for 20 years. Serve as a deacon for our church.

Varmint hunting is my sport of choice, especially daytime coyote calling. Usually hunt by myself but love teaching youngsters. Been a many that scored their first coyote, bobcat, raccoon and fox with me. I still love the art of using mouth calls. I've had coyotes and bobcats within 2 feet of me, even mule deer that almost touched my foot. Personal best is 8 bobcats in one night by myself, 15 coyotes in one day solo.

When time permits I enjoy metal detecting. Son has a beach home on Bolivar Peninsula and enjoy detecting on the beach.

Every summer my son coordinates a kayak trip. I enjoy camp cooking do most of the cooking as well as kayaking with the group.

Live each day to the fullest because tomorrow may never come!

Tombstone in Indiana reads:

Pause, stranger, when you pass me by:
As you are now, so once was I.
As I am now, so you will be
So prepare for death and follow me.

Someone wrote this note under it:

To follow you I am not content,
Until I know which way you went.
