I’ll definitely will have to handle some of these guns. What do I want in a new pistol that my Glocks don't offer? Well…let’s see…

I have a Glock 35 Gen3 with a reworked 4.5 lbs trigger and fiber optic front sight. It’s overall a nice range/home defense gun. I used to shoot it fine, but for some reason the grip has started to feel uncomfortable. My hold is the two thumbs up and when I shoot, the nails (and I have short nails) of my shooting right hands are pushed into the palm of my left hand. I just ordered some talon grip and I can always use gloves to mitigate this.

I also have a Gen3 G26 with night sights, light stippling job and talon grip. The grip is much better than the G35. I occasionally carry it with a 10 round mag. Its main purpose is for home defense with a G19 mag and XGRIP. But it’s not a good gun to shoot at the range. With a short sight radius and those thick night sights, I can’t be very accurate with it. It’s good enough to hit a man size target at 25Y but it’s not that good for shooting groups. I also don’t like the finish on these newer Glocks. The finish on my older G35 is much better and is more resistant to scratches.

I really think that the main reason that the majority of LEO have Glocks is because it’s cheap. It’s not because they are the best.
I guess I want a nice 9mm range gun. It has to be accurate, reliable, good trigger, and with good fit and finish. Those CZ75 and PPQ seem pretty interesting.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but your opinion is wrong. A gun is a LEO's last line of defense. If ANY LEO chooses a Glock simply because its cheap than he/she aint very smart! Glocks have a track record that many would argue is second to none. Does that make it the best???....not really, but no matter what nobody will ever agree on what the best actually is when personal preference is going to always be a variable.

Sig... P226, 228/M11, or 229... or 224, or 290, or 938, or 225, or 210...or 220...

Seriously hard to be the latest greatest John Browning design with Swiss and German touches added, and built in the USA.

I've ran them all, and have issued Glock 19/26's, but if I get to choose it's the Sig P226. It saved my life, is the most accurate out of the box gun I've ever shot, and reliability is never even a topic

I went to Cabela’s and handled the Sig P320 and the PPQ M2. The P320 was nice, but the trigger reset was a little weak. I really liked the PPQ M2. Awesome grip and very nice and light trigger. Both the triggers were better than a factory Glock.
They also had a bunch of HKs, but by the time I saw them the store got too busy. Those HKs look nice! I need to gain more knowledge on HK pistols. They have so many variations (kind of like Sig).
I’m also considering the Sig P226, but I need to gain more knowledge on that one as well (they have so many variations as well!)

Should't your first decision be what action type you want? Decide between single-action, DAO, DA/SA, or striker-fired. Or you may have a preference for all-steel, steel over aluminum, or steel over polymer. These two things, action type and materials would be what I first thought about.

I'm partial to Glocks and Sigs.

I like the parts interchangeability and simplicity of glocks.

I think Sigs are a sweet spot in value for high quality fit and finish, a lot of nice concealed carry guns too.

I've carried a Kahr PM9 for several years and love it as well, but I've wanted to move to a larger mag capacity gun. Shot a Springfield XD Mod 2 Sub Compact and really, really liked it. Bought one and have hardly touched my PM9 or my Sig P228 since. I love my P228 but it feels heavier to carry. I'm sure the actual weight difference between it and the XD is nominal.

I favor the CZ75 models as well as the new M&P 2.0. The trigger on the 2.0 is an improvement which has a nice short reset. There are a few new features which make the 2.0 attractive. The grip angle is improved and it performance flawlessly. The CZ's are an exceptional choice. Both the full size 75b and the P01 are extremely reliable and easy to shoot as well as very accurate. The big difference is one is polymer and one is not.

If your looking based on your last paragraph you want a 1911 in 9mm. I saw a colt competition at Cabellas last week for 975.00. You better get their fast before someone else sees it. They only had one and they are hard to find.

Beretta or Taurus 92 is hard to beat if you don't mind the size. I actually enjoy the look. They're stupid reliable, incredibly easy to shoot, and have a pretty decent trigger.

I like my Springfield XD but I wouldn't put it on the list of "best 9mm handguns". But it's a great combination of size, accuracy, reliability, and price. Decent trigger, but not great.

Sig P239 and P226 are both great. I haven't handled a P320 yet, but I assume it's impressive as well from what I've read.

Good call HWY, I have an older Hi-Power and enjoy it more than the XDm, SIG 239 or the glocks I have owned.

For some reason I only associate the 1911 to the 45 caliber.
Do they still make the Browning high power?

I like a SA/DA with safety. Loved the Beretta PX4 Storm compact I bought from a member that I bought the same pistol in the stainless full size for the nightstand. I am more accurate with either than I have been with any other 9mm I've owned. And I've had a few. Also have a Beretta Nano for carry which is a nice easy to handle pistol in its own right.

That said, there are so many great brands/pistols out there. Best bet is handle and SHOOT as many as you can. You will fall in love with one....or more than one. Some I still want to try myself, i.e., the Springfield.

My Sig 226 is the best shooting gun except for my high-end .45s. My EDC is a shield or Glock 19. I love Glocks, but my Sig 226 MK25 just rocks!

Although not my favorite to shoot and by far the ugliest pistol I own, my Glock 19 WAS my go-to 9mm for conceal carry. It has been firmly and 100% without a doubt been replaced without a look back by the CZ-USA P-07 compact 9mm. It's DA/SA with decocker but no external mechanical safety. Its the total opposite of everything I dislike about the Glock. Feels great in the hand, points naturally, WAAAY better trigger w/just enough take up, nice crisp break with minimal over-travel and smooth quick reset. On quick follow up shots, very little muzzle rise and easy front sight re-acquisition. Just feels almost like you could close your eyes and point it and be on target. Feels slimmer and rides closer to my body in my Alien Gear IWB holster for all day carry. There is nothing I dislike or would change on this pistol! Having said that, I did just order the new CZ-USA P-10C Compact 9mm in FDE through CZ's (and Dan Wesson's 1911s) awesome military discount program and can't wait to try it out. Hard to imagine liking it more than the P-07 but very easy to see liking it better than the G19.
