I don't have an irrational fear of snakes, but when I stood up and began to kick dirt around an area of my popup where light was coming in and uncovered and kicked one of the in the head, I was startled. Check your pop up blinds! Being under dirt, I never saw them when I entered the blind nor as I sat and day light arose.

Will there be green grass growing there next year ?

It wasn't for lack of cautious inspection prior to entering the blind that they were in there. It was a chilly morning and they were underneath loose soil and a thick layer of fallen cedar needles trying to stay warm. Would have never known they were there had I not uncovered them. Could have been a worse outcome. I jumped up in my chair to get my feet off the ground to assess for more than the two visible ones. Once I determined it was safe I grabbed my bow, exited the blind leaving the door flap open, and stood back 10 yards or so and used a judo point arrow to neutralize the situation. Unfortunately I left after that, 0920 yesterday, because the musk odor they produce was too strong and putrid to withstand in an enclosed blind. Back in it this morning, but with no luck this far.

I would like to officiate Limestone County as the "Copperhead Capital of Texas". I have seen and killed more copperheads here than anywhere else that I have lived and traveled. I was bit in the shin by one while hog hunting a few years back. It kind of sucked...

Wow. Those seem to be pretty good sized too.

Same thing happened to me opening morning last year. Had a rattlesnake under my ground blind which got the blood pumping. Lucky for me I had another option to hunt within walking distance, but it was a LOOOOONNNGGG walk.

I would've never gone back in, ever, never!
