I bought a crossbow a few years ago just to play with . Long story short I haven't shot it in about year so I get it out today just to shoot it and on the first shot all heck broke loose I thought the whole thing exploded . But it was just the string . My question is everything looks ok to me but should I just get it restrung and carry on or trash it or what ?

Take it to a pro shop just to be safe. More than likely it was just the string busting.

What brand of crossbow? Excalibur can take a dry fire most of the time without any limb damage.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

Pro shop. Should be ok. Sounds like the string gave up.
