Fellows in classified advertised tracking wounded deer--read it this morning, they are out of Stanton.

No talked to a couple guys (trackers) described shot, findings afterwards, and they both said they feel deer is not mortally wounded. Id rather him be alive and never get another crack at him than him be dead somewhere for no reason. I feel horrible tonight. Ill be back in the morning to check all cameras to see if maybe one caught him running by. I know this is part of the beast but its an unsettling feeling.

What if you didn't remember the shot perfectly? No way someone on a phone can hear a description of a shot from recollection and tell you if it was a mortal shot or not. A buck can be shot in the back leg and bleed out in minutes. Deer could be laying 50 yards away dead but now will be spoiled and wasted if thats the case. IDK if I had any chance at a dog id use it.

It was a hi shoulder shot. Arrow fell out about 30 yrds from impact location. Blood trail started about 10 yrds later and blood trail was very faint for 50 yrds then it just stopped. No blood bigger that a smear on ground about palm size.

Look who showed up this evening. This became a mission. I had shot forward shoulder like I thought and arrow did pass through came out of his neck. He walked up today like nothing ever happen. You can kinda see exit wound of shot yesterday on his neck. Ironically the shot today dropped him in his tracks. Hes not a monster but im pretty proud of him and have a funny story now. Hes my first REAL buck and first deer with a bow. Thanks for reading

Congrats. Redemption doesn't come often for bowhunters, never mind the very next day. Very nice representative hill country buck.
