Just got back from SD grouse hunting for 7 days and had a great time. The grouse numbers were better than the last 2 years and had lots of luck. The pup did a great job and had fun too. They have had a lot of rain this year and the praries were much harder walking for an old man. For you pheasant hunters going up to SD this year, on one of my scouting trips where I bothered to count I counted 143 pheasants in an hour and fourty five minute drive late in the evening. We didn't see that many last year in 7 days hunting grouse and scouting pheasants so that hunting should be much improved. Good luck all

Not usually acct. I hunt the prairies far removed from the farming where the pheasants hang out, but this year I found quite a few pheasants up in the prairie, but it is just more fun for the dog.

I am sure glad someone had good luck. WE had 3 hunters on the grasslands near Pierre and after hunting 4 days we had one bird. All the birds we saw seemed to be well educated, thus we assumed they were last years birds. The pheasant do look great for this year. By the way, we had 10 experienced pointing dogs of various breeds.

What part of the state were you finding grouse? I'll be there late next week hunting pheasant on a large private agriculture operation...but I like to go find grouse after the morning pheasant hunt but have had little luck the last two years. I will be hunting in the SE portion of the state near Gregory...
...any grouse pointers or names of guides would be greatly appreciated!
