just remember you are only allowed to harvest ONE Eastern turkey each year during the spring season ONLY and the Eastern turkey season usually runs only 3-4 weeks compared to the Rio season which is 10 weeks long.

Go by the TPWD county listing for season and limits as found in the outdoor annual.
It's by season, not by bird species. For example Grayson falls under the Eastern Spring Season and will be one gobbler only no matter which species. And shotgun only. Grayson also has a fall season with completely different regs as well.

Whoa. You drew deer in Grayson? Umm... yea... I don't know what to say except they need to rename it to Booner County. Google "how the Texas non typical record fell two times in one season"...

You might want to check the law, I DONT think there is a Fall turkey season in Grayson Co.

My wife must be a cross between a Indian and a bulldog. When she's not on the warpath, she's sitting on her butt growling.

I have never seen an Eastern in Grayson County.

More than Likely you will harvest a Rio in Grayson County and it will count as your Eastern Bird.

There is NO Fall Season.

Dates are April 15 - May 14

You will need to check your bird in after you harvest it.

The deer hunting isn't good in Grayson County either...

Outlaw outfitters are starting to do turkey hunts in Grayson & Fannin Countys this spring. They haven't got the info up on the web site yet but you can call Beau about it. Their website is huntoutlaw.com

And if you are hunting deer you better sharpen your bow skills because, if I remember right, Grayson is an archery only county.

dshafranek, where in Iowa did you move from? I am also from Iowa but moved here back in 1985. I am a "naturalized Texan".

Just don't be disappointed in the deer here compared to the deer back in Iowa. There are some nice ones but most will not dress out as much in weight as the Iowa deer do. The corn and accorn fed deer in the midwest attain bigger weight mass than here. You will also notice a difference in the flovor of the meat.
