I am lost and confused, reading all these regulations, rules and .....
I have limited time to scout and hunt due to working overseas. I am looking for a place to hunt deer (and hogs) that will not cost me an arm and a leg. Using Archery or modern rifle
How does the post card hunts work?
Can I hunt balcones canyonlands national wildlife refuge?

The chart on page 67 of the new booklet shows what you can hunt at the various sites in Region 6. There are three places where you can bowhunt for whitetail deer (Somerville, Luminant and Granger), one place for rifle hunting (Luminant) and 21 places where you can hunt for feral hogs. Each site has a page in the booklet, and that page lists when the hunting seasons are for walk-in hunts.

The postcard hunts are different: Your postcard is like an entry into a drawing, and only the hunters who are drawn "win" hunts at those times. But anyone with an annual public hunting permit can do a walk-in hunt at the sites listed above.

I don't know anything about Balcones Canyonlands; the national refuges have different rules and I'm not familiar with them. Also, if you're military, there are hunts at some of the bases. I'm pretty sure Camp Bullis here in San Antonio has whitetail hunting for military personnel.
