Say you're bow hunting, in a pop up, and it's colder'n a witch's (you know what) in a brass braw. Would a heater be out of the question? Or would that be too much for a pop up? I know if I'm ever to sit in a blind, the heaters coming with me. But in a more portable situation, to be able to pull the bow back, I don't wanna have too many layers on and a heater sure would be nice.

What do y'all think?

I guess it depends on how bad you want to harvest your game... For me NO.

I have been know to us a small propane Coleman cat heater in a pop up. You just have to be extra careful with it, don't want to kick it over into the GB - that might get interesting real fast. I have never seen deer "spooked" by one. BUT - you may never see a deer that is turned off by one either. I always hunt the wind so smell in not an issue.

If I hunted really cold weather I would look into the Heater Body Suit.

I cannot believe a deer within bow range couldn't hear a heater going. Maybe smell it too. So, no.

I have used a buddy heater in my pop-up before with no issues.

This happen to me last year in Kansas. After arriving in Ks, I hung 2 stands. It was 60 degrees with a weather change coming. So, with a hard blue northern coming in, I put up my pop-up for "just in case". Two days later, the wind was blowing like 50 mph, temps in the low 30's, and spittin' sleet and snow. I don't think I ever been that cold before. After a couple hours in the lock-on, I couldn't stand it any longer and moved to the pop-up. Once inside, I warmed up nicely. Now, of course, I closed all the windows to the northwest and shut the wind off.
With that said, this is what I think. If you have a wind, I don't think a deer would be able to hear it running much less smell it unless it was directly downwind of it. If there is no wind, but down right cold and you have layered up, I don't think a heater will be necessary.
But over the years, what I have learned, if you're not comfortable, you're not going to kill a deer. Might as well get comfortable, even if that means firing up a heater.

Depends on the situation, conditions, location and heater...

Coffee can, roll of toilet paper and a bottle of alcohol. Quiet as it gets and puts out enough heat for a popup. Or take a big blanket that you can slide off quietly before you shoot.

I have done the blanket thing before. Can't imagine I would take a heater with me.

I hunt Iowa in January with a MZL and the outfitter has Propane Heaters.....now before you go off and start commenting about the MZl....he also has bow hunters in camp and they also use propane heaters. One thing is that the outfitter has tons of blinds and always has you sitting in a location with a favorable wind condition.

I personally would be more concerned about the noise if bowhunting....but apparently it's not been an issue for the bowhunters in Iowa that hunt with this outfitter.

I do it all the time if the wind is wrong it don't matter if you have a heater or not and if the wind is right then it still don't matter that you have a heater because they won't know it.

It's real bad when it's 90 degrees inside the tent

Thanks everyone for the feedback! This one situation I'm thinking of is at my grandfathers house in Wise Co. Every time I take a pop up out there, I take it a few days early and let it sit a few days. On the mornings I hunt, I tend to get there up to two hours early so the long sit usually gets pretty cold that it hurts. It's always a N wind and his house is directly behind me so I do hunt the wind.

It does make a little noise. That toilet paper idea sounds perfect Txshntr! I can't believe I didn't think of that!
