Your taking about Ken Witt; He sure has an attitude, but he knows his stuff. He actually told one of my friends to go to Alvarado Archery for a new Matthews. I've known him for years back in the day he was a monster in competition and he's a heck of a tech, but he's a number one A hole.. I've told him that!

I gotta say one thing about Ken; if he likes you, he'll take really good care of you.

David's is a quality place no doubt. But 15 miles (CCR), 7 miles (Smithfield) or 40 miles to David's? confused2

For rests and sights, Cabela's is not a bad place. Buy the rest or sight there and they will install it for no extra charge. The one in Allen I know will serve in the control cord and laser centershot included in the purchase.

I will still use CCR until they prove they can't handle it. Stan (Smithfield) does a good job but if he isn't there you're sol.

I don't know your situation but I know they are very short handed at CCR right now. I work part time on weekends and make it a point to check on everyone standing around the counter. Owning my own shop for a while and now working at CCR I can tell you one thing. This time of year is hard on shops. If you can't stand the sit and wait a minute till someone can get to you then don't go in an archery shop from July to October. Everyone there knows their stuff but in your defense I can agree that they have some collage kids working there for the summer and they don't quite understand what Customer service is. I have to tell them from time to time to help someone.

Come in and see me and I will take care of you and give you a discount next time you come in for your trouble.

I went in once during the week. Same thing. I had $2k cash in my pocket and was set to spend it all on a crossbow. No one ever spoke to me once in 30-45 minutes. I even went to counter. So I just left.

PM me I would like to know. I will talk to the manager and see if I can make it right for you. That goes for anyone that has had an issue at CCR.

Bought my Mission Riot at Smithfield Archery on Beach. Stan and Rhonda are some of the nicest people you'll meet. The range is only 20yds but there are some really good pro-staffers and regular archers that are more than willing to give advice and tricks of the trade. Smithfield will have my business for a long time.

Still it would be nice to practice on a 30-40yd range sometimes. Don't think I'd every try to shoot more than that. Still too new at this "bowhunting" thing.

I get any bow work I need done at Smithfield. Good folks there.

I did have a good experience at Cinnamon Creek a couple of weeks ago. Looking back, I think it may have been Wes. My son and I were looking at some thumb releases and the gentleman was very friendly and helpful.

Stan is the only one at Smithfield that I would begin to trust on my bow. Two things though. He tried to get me to buy a 27" bow that was obviously too long and I would have tried to shoot high wrist . . . He put on a new rest and it didn't sit even close to center shot. Unusual for him but it shook my confidence a little. The last time I went there was the clincher, him being out of town and no other tech there who could even put a different cam on my new to me Z7E . . . Not that I wouldn't go there but dang it really hurt my confidence level.

The reality is I can build a pump from a collection of the parts. Same with a gas chlorinator, a lime slaker, a gate valve or any other of the several hundred pieces of equipment that I worked with for 30 years. Different brands no matter. I was considered an "expert" in my industry and even 50 year old pieces of equipment there aren't manuals for we were expected to figure out and have them running at maximum efficiency. I would expect any "bow tech" who takes my bow in for service to return it right and ready to go. When that doesn't happen for people they lose confidence such as several people on here have posted. It could be confidence in a business to do work to an expected quality or to give good service. Truth be told, if I had all my own equipment such as press and such, not to mention a room again to do such stuff, I seldom would go to a "pro shop".

No, cause I wont be back to buy anything. Sorry bro, just checked the thread again that's why I haven't written.

Top 3 things that bugged me summed up.

1.) Uncle walks in off the street, he is a Dr. Has money buring a hole in his wallet, buys a bow. Yall "set it up". He comes to ranch, and shoots we a buddy and I. We from the first couple shots can tell SOMTHING IS UP. the bow is LOUD, and it is a NICE BOW. Its WAY louder than it should and sounds different than I've ever heard. We mention it to my uncle. He stops by a dif shop on the way home from the ranch. That tech is shocked by how it was "set up." No I don't know what war wrong I wasn't there but I trust that tech a lot. Felt like he was taken advantage of.

2.) Was told something yall were out of stock of would be in that week or the next tops, was there the next two weeks made special trips. 3 months later somebody found something with my name on it and called, needless to say I had found what I needed elsewhere.

3.) Observation, if you aren't a "regular" out there your a second class citizen. Seen it several times new people who don't know the ropes get ignored.

Lastly, shot a round of 3rd. Lost 2 arrows because they blew through cause targets were worn out(may have been replaced by now idk) Mentioned it back at the shop, was told, "well yall shoulda picked a different spot on the target and gone from there." Are you kidding? I spent money to play and score CORRECTLY. Would you tell somebody at a golf course to pick a differnt spot on the green and call it a hole.

Not saying they are bad people, heck some of them have been funny the times I've been around. Not saying there aren't good instances too just saying I won't buy anything from them or have them touch a bow I own. I feel like they need to refocus their efforts and work on their professionalism.

I will be there to shoot because there aren't really other options that make sense near me and if you want to shoot competitively you basically HAVE to go there somtimes... I'll take my bow to people I trust and not spend my money there.

Did you or your uncle say anything to anyone at CCR? I would like to know who the tech at CCR was so we could make sure he doesn't do that again. I would of also like to know what the other shop did to fix the issue.

It is hard to fix a problem if know one knows.

Wes70, I don't know, I would tell you if I did. My uncles deal was a while back now. He isn't much of a bow junky, just bought it and shoots what he has. He didn't get names or anything. I had told him i'd like to go with him when he went but he didn't want to wait. It was all I could do to get him to go to some kind of shop and not bass pro.
I'm sure my uncle didn't say anything, he went to the guy I use and never looked back.

As for the other shop I can't tell you, again I wasn't there. I just know my uncle said the shop worked on it said they found the problem, fixed it. I know what the bow sounds like before and after. Like I said he isn't a bow junky, if it was me i'd have got answers.

I've seen this happen. And it happens to me because I don't go there regularly. I don't do shoots, I shoot in my back yard or into a soon to be dead animal. I go when I need repairs, gear or supplies. It's really frustrating when they are standing in the center talking and you are walking around the counter or standing there looking at them and they don't even acknowledge your existence. But the last few times I went that wasn't the case. Of course I did buy a bow and all the accessories.

That was a few months ago.

Man I'm glad I read through this thread. Been seriously thinking about getting up there to shoot some 3D. It's a long drive for me but there aren't a lot of other options. Now I won't waste my time. Especially since I learned here that Ken Witt is affiliated with him. Visited his shop in Arlington maybe 12 yrs ago when I first was getting into archery. Worst experience I ever had. In fact I had such a bad experience with him that I gave up on buying a bow until about 4 yrs ago. I assumed I would be treated like that everywhere because I was on a budget and didn't have thousands of dollars to spend at an archer shop. Sounds like he molded a lot of the staff in his image.

You didn't read all the threads about CCR then. Ken Witt hasn't been affiliated with them for 2 years now I think.

Wes70,
I will tell you customer service is very lacking at CCR. I just had a new string and cable setup put on mine and had a major problem with the string. Not once did anybody seem concerned. I never got a thank you for your business, or even the correct silencers put on my string.

The guy last night when I picked up my bow just handed it to me, I asked if he was going to put the pep in and he said "oh yea" and took it back and put the d loop on so the peep could be installed. I point blank ask him if it had been shot and paper tuned and he said yes. I didn't want to call him out on this but how did they paper tune it if it didn't have a d loop. I finally just gave up, paid what I owed and left.

I could go on and on about the 4 trips I have made there for my bow and all the lack of customer service things I observed while waiting around, but I feel it would fall on deaf ears.

and like stated in a previous post my bow is 2 times as loud as it was before the new cables and string. I will be taking it to another shop to have it checked out.

Very disappointed with CCR.

I agree that customer serivce is lacking. I have had this conversation with the owner and manager. I understand how you feel. That is the reason opened my own shop and have been working on my own bows since 1997. That is why I try my hardest to give the best customer service I can while working there. If you don't get it to another shop before this Wednesday. I will be working then bring it to me and I will look it over for you. I apologize for the lack of customer service. They are working on it and I will continue to push the issue with them.

I took a buddy to CCR this weekend to shoot a few bows. He is brand new to bows, and I told him to shoot them all to see what he likes. The young man helping us out was happy to show him how to shoot. He spent about an hour with us letting my buddy shoot different bows. I didn't agree with everything he said, but personal opinion will always make differences arise. Overall, I was pleased with the young man spending the time to help a brand new bow shooter.

I also got to meet Wes70, and talk a little trash about our very own BOBO the Clown

I call BS. I find it hard to believe that you walked in there and was ignored. If thats the case, then all you had to do was speak up. CCR is a top-notched organization and will not find a better archery range with knowledgeable staff in North Texas, possibly in the whole state. And you'll be hard-press to find a better game processor around. No need to get all butt hurt.

I was both times I went. Once I was the only one in there and standing at the counter. They did have a good selection though so I found what I wanted in a case and broadheads and ordered online when I got home. Maybe it was just a couple of bad days.

It's not ur job as a customer to ask somone to stop talking and come help u. In my opinion like some people have said some days r good and other r bad to go up their. If like to try to go back when Wes is in he seems like a good guy and would help any one other than that everyone has an opinion and that was mine on ccr no one butt hurt if u like the store keep going.

Disguise yourself and act like a complete newby, Txshntr. See what happens

I tend to agree with some here. I myself sometimes walk into bow shops to just walk around and look at all the new expensive stuff I can't afford and I tell people I don't need anything when they walk up and ask if I need help.

There are other times when I do want help, you know what I do? I walk up and say something eluding to the fact that I have questions and need help. Simple as that. Not trying to sound smart but in this world, the answer is always no if you don't ask.

If you say something and they STILL don't help? That's messed up. Lol

The only thing I can really say. Is if you don't talk to management about your problem they can't fix it. I work there and I can agree with what some of you guys are saying. So I am not trying to cover anything up. Just saying we can't fix what we don't know is broken. We are having a mandatory meeting Sunday night. I will make sure to bring this stuff up in the meeting.

I have to say, it must have been the wrong day or I am here on the right day. This is my first trip to CCR and it has been a great visit so far. Very polite and knowledgeable workers, techs have been thorough so far and ask questions as they are working on my bow and every time I am idol, someone stops to see if I have been helped.

I have been out there a few over the last few months. Couple times for them to work on my bow and the other night I took my wife out there to get her a bow. I have no complaints they worked with my wife and she was happy after leaving. I was there today and again I have no complaints. But then again you can't keep everyone happy. Someone is going to find a reason to b••ch about something.

Are you wearing the proper disguise? If not, they may have busted you as an undercover THF operator.

My two boys and I have been there many times over the years and have had nothing but good experiences. They are always asking me to go shooting there. About a month ago I had a tech spend a lot of time watching my son shoot and adjusting his bow at no cost. We love the indoor and outdoor ranges. I hope they stay around for a long time. smile

I was in Ken's old shop for a new release and a guy was returning a crossbow he bought. Don't know the details but I saw Ken get extremely upset and grabbed the guy by the neck. I walked out real fast but the two guys were asking if I would be a witness to the assault. They had the police on the phone and a lady came out with cash and said if you don't call the cops I will give you your money. She handed him cash and apologized. I later found out it was Ken's wife.

Who wants to be around a person like that? NOT me!!!

There are a lot of stories about Ken when he owned his shop in Arlington. Some love him and some hate him.

Pretty sure he doesn't work at CCR anymore and pretty sure that wouldn't fly when working for someone else...but I could be wrong

Ken definitely had anger issues; about the only people he was nice to were guys that were staff shooters from his shop in Arlington.

I've seen him go off on people that wasn't called for; he never did with me, or I'd be in prison today. Homie don't play dat S###. boxing

Unless I am wrong I don't think Ken ever went back after the bad wreck he had.

As far as his attitude I consider him a good friend. I was in his shop a lot and I never saw him go off on anyone that did not need it...LOL. I did see a few people that did not like his honesty. Ken was not one to tell you what you wanted to hear. He is one that will tell you the truth. Some people can handle that and some cannot. I live about 2 hours from CCR but if Ken is back at work then I will go back to driving over there to get my bow worked on.

The difference is over there if you criticize a place the masses love, such as a bowhunting operation like the Diamond C Ranch, you get belittled, demeaned and ostracized. So people are a little tentative to post some things. Here it's a little more accepting of people's varying opinions.

I have always had good experiences at CCR. Me and both my brothers go there to get what ever we need done. Not saying it doesn't happen! But like all businesses there are wait times. And yes I have had issues before with either new bow set up or other issue but they always made it right with no hesitation. I got transferred a couple yrs ago to San Angelo and I still go to them even tho it's a 4hr trip one way.

Refuse to purchase anything bow related at CCR, as others have stated the service is pretty poor. I prefer doing business at Smithfield and fear the day Rhondha closes shop.

Yada yada yada!!! People have good days, people have bad days ! If you search Smithfield you will see where she pissed a guy off with her" not gonna help that bow any" comment! But guess what I work in FW! And Smithfield is close and I get great service ! On the other side I live in Denton so I burn by ccr a lot ! I actually walked in with an attitude cause I left my compound questions at home and showed up with a homemade Osage orange bow needing some arrows like the two my brother sent with the bow!! Guess what they broke out a book got the right weight and tips, and sold me on a 1/2 dozen! It is what it is! If you don't like the channel turn it!!!!

I'm always stating that All-Star is my place of choice but I was on the way home today and decided to swing by CCR and see what it's all about. I've used the processor next door 3 times and never been in the shop. I can say this, I don't have names but as soon as I walked in, I was greeted and asked if they could help. I said no that I was just taking a look around. "Well holler if you have any questions bud!"

10 minutes into it, I was asked by another gentleman If I was looking for anything in particular. Nope, thanks tho. I can't say anything bad about the place. They had awesome stuff and the prices didn't seem too high on what I saw. I'd change the layout but hey, who am I but a yahoo off the street? Lol

Also, there was a birthday party inside for the kiddos. THAT was cool. They were having a blast with the little shooting competitions. I stood and watched for a while. It looked like they were hooked on bow shooting from the first shot. Cool idea.

I haven't posted on this thread because I had two completely different experiences on two occasions. The recurring issues up there and the request to hear about what's wrong has encouraged me to speak up...

The first time I went, it was slow, I got helped pretty quick, and I got to shoot a bunch of bows and had a lot of help... at that point, I was still deciding.

When I went back a couple weeks later, I knew what I wanted... a Hoyt Charger in 60 lbs. It took probably 30 minutes before I got helped... to the point that my wife almost made me leave. Part of it was they were busy... but there were a few guys BS'ing in the middle area and wouldn't look my way. Once I did get helped, I was told that they didn't have the 60-lbs bow. Then he said it was OK because "the 2014 Chargers could adjust from 50 to 70, so I didn't need to get a 50 to 60 bow". I can't find anything online that indicates this statement was anything more than a way to sell me the bow they had on-hand. In their defense, the 8-turns allowed on the limb bolts does get the bow down to around 50 lbs, but Hoyt still doesn't make any statements like I was told.

I had the kit put on, shot a few times, and then took it home. After a while of shooting in the string, I started really working on tuning. I found out that they didn't give me the extra parts to the UltraRest so I didn't have the Hoyt specific arm... luckily, QAD sent me one for no charge. Because they tied in the string for the rest, I didn't get the football either. I've since replaced the rest, but it still bugs me. BTW, the center shot wasn't even close and the loop wasn't square. It appears things were just thrown on there and eyeballed.

In comparison, I was on my way to Alvarado for another reason and took my bow with me. When I stopped in the shop down there, I just wanted to check my pull weight and they jumped at the chance to help me. I've since been in there a couple times and always have people walking up to me... I don't have to stand at the counter and stare someone down to get help.

Since I live in Mansfield, its a little further to get to Cinnamon Creek vs. Alvarado. After the first experience at CC, I thought the extra drive was worth it. The last trip I made showed me a different story.

I was talking to a guy off of TBH about a possible bow swap. It seemed too easy. I called up to CCR about what it would take to get the 29" dl bow down to my 26.5" dl and Zach told me new cam and string/cables. I was astonished and asked him to check. Willie came to the phone and confirmed it and also said new limbs would be needed as well if I expected max performance out of it. Needless to say I was not able to do the swap. Glad I called and checked with them first. They saved me a bunch of cash and hassle. up

i have a buddy who wanted to get into bow hunting so we went there back in the spring. i had heard good things about the place.

i have to agree with others around here that service is lacking. it took a while to get someone to help him. through the process of testing different bows and talking accessory upgrades, he was passed off to no less than three different salesmen. seemed kinda strange, but i dunno...

anyway, my friend came away with a very nice hoyt charger that was setup well. he has become deadly accurate with it too. CCR has a great selection and i like that about the place. customer service needs improvement.

while my friends bow was being setup we took a walk thru the 3D section. i wasn't impressed.

just the way i see it.

would i go back. yea, probably, because of the selection mostly...

I've had both good and bad experiences there.
On the big "I'm here to buy a new bow" day - the guy actually stood there and made enough dumbass comments that I finally told him, that he'd done a good enough job that I'd just go somewhere else. He looked surprised and I think realized what he'd been doing, he tried to say something like, Oh hey, uh I can show you a couple things. Another guy behind the counter heard a bit of the convo and approached, but By then I was done.

Went back again months later for broadheads,(no one else had the GraveDiggers I needed) There no problem then.
The next day I realized I'd bought the Deep Six and needed to exchange them. I called, I think I might have actually talked to Wes, everything was cool and I drove back out from Dallas and switched them out no problem.
Hit Montana 4 days later and dropped a Pope & Young Pronghorn.

Alvarado Archery gets the rest of my business from now on. Great people and Great customer service.

Just my experiences for those interested.

Went by there today. Willie gave me and insert for my clarifier peep. That isn't clear in wet, cold weather. And now that I'm wearing contacts again after 25 years . . . Anyhow, bought some Nocturnals since he didn't charge me for that. I did glance at the new Hoyts . . .

Personally, I like CCR. Nice people and a great place to shoot.

The kid at CCR that helped me look at a bunch of stabilizers and try them out was helpful enough. But I don't think I would take my bow there to get worked on I just wasn't feeling it. I think it's a fun place to go to shoot I liked the walk through of the woods course. First time there no one was super helpful so it was kind of hard to figure out where to go but once we got our bearings we had a good time.

Great folks at CCR. Bought a new Mathews from Jeff there last week. Spent a ton of time with me and let me shoot several different bows. Great experience over all. I've been to Alvarado also, really liked that shop and the folks in it too.

I am loyal to David..but like passthru had mentioned earlier in the thread, it is handy on location..I went in with a Open Mind when I bought my case, I ended up getting it a Davids they were out of stock..
Actually was Happy with the service I ended up picking up a new release, I wish I had of got the gentleman's name, middle aged slim guy with a moustache..Very Helpful and courteous..I like how they work with the Youth Archery Leagues..
Only complaint I had was the kid in the sand brown truck that came through the parking lot doing 65 mphs and almost ran me over running in the store and he worked there.
But I will go back

I like David's as well but the selection is not as big and it's forty miles from me vs. less than twenty.

I'm fairly new to bow hunting and this was the first shop I used. I have to admit the first time I went in there I was not impressed with their customer service. I tried to ask questions and getting help was like pulling teeth. I told myself I would not be returning.

I'm a firm believer in giving second chances, so I returned. My second visit was just a little better than the first. I can say that this time the customer service was better than the first visit. I made a purchase and left. Upon getting home I realized I had purchased the wrong thing and returned to CCR. They were out of stock for the one I needed. They returned the wrong item and promptly got me the right one on order.

My third visit, I had a problem with my bow, which I did not purchase from CCR. I took it to them and they fixed it in a matter of minutes of me bringing it in. They did not charge me to repair it. They let me shoot it to make sure it was fixed to my liking. I left completely satisfied with CCR.

I can say based on my experience with them, that their customer service has been hit and miss. It seems to depend on who is working that day. They seemed to always have a good selection of accessories and bows. Their prices seem to be in line with everyone else. They have a pretty good range that includes an elaborate outdoor range. I will continue to use them, and say if your in the market for shop to give them a look for yourself and make the call if you like them or not.

I stood in one place looking at the empty spot on the shelf where an item was supposed to sit that I drove to this store for. No less than ten of there employees walked by me. A few said hello, several just looked away, as they went by. None of them stopped and asked me if they could help me. Finally, after 45 minutes I saw another employee and walked several isles down and asked him for help. Turns out he was in maintenance. He did however call another employee down from up stairs who looked up the item and told me they were back ordered on it and didn't know when they would have one. I went home and ordered it online from the manufacturer.

That was Cabelas not far from CCR. People will complain about the archery shop but tell me one time we get great customer service from Walmart or some other big store we frequent all the time?

The point is if I had just straight up asked for help at Cabelas that day from one of the people that passed by me I probably would have gotten a less than enthusiastic response and not been happy. If I had gone on a different day I may have gotten a different response and been more happy.

I go in to CCR and if I'm there for a reason I speak to them when I walk in if they don't speak to me first, which hasn't been too often. And they have taken care of me and my equipment so I will keep going there.

I always hate to hear about a cool place like a bow shop, gun shop, or even a taxidermy shop that has issues, but unfortunately they occasionally do. Ive had problems with all three. Most of the time its someones big headed attitude. Man that sucks, just be cool right. If Ive been in the gun doctor 10 times, 9 times I told myself I would never go back in there again. All my friends hate them too. They've inherited the name gun dicks. Man could you imagine getting that kind of reputation. Same with the local gun range, we call them range dicks. rock_on

Recently got a gym membership, strange folks! I like to show up the roid zombies with my full motion curls with the 55lb. bells. Not their cheater short stroked light weights. It's holarious.

The person working the counter was Cody.... not a plesnt experience there.
I went down the street to cabelas and got the service I expected to get ccr.

For there I went down to smithfield, could not be happier. Looks like ill be getting both bows there.

It's really hit or miss at CCR, depends on who is working the counter and how they react to being disturbed. The younger guys that work there seem to be impatient and cocky. Always had a good experience with Smithfield.

Completely agree with NoMoe and BG. I just bought a bow from Smithfield Archery after going to both Cabela's and CCR. The bow was even a little cheaper at CCR but I chose to buy it at Smithfield because the people there actually seemed to know what they were talking about and were in no hurry to rush me out the door. I may go to CCR to use the range in the future but Smithfield's customer service has gained a customer for life.

See how well tuned out the door your bow is and you may change your mind.

Never had a problem at Smithfields with me my bow being tuned when I walked out the door. That is where I went after CCR couldn't get it right and gave poor customer service.

I have. And unfortunately I found out the hard way. Lesson learned. I've also had a need when Stan was on vacation and it was just TDB for me until he got back but CCR handled it fast and easy. He also tried to convince me that after 25 years of bowhunting my draw length was wrong so he could sell me a bow off the rack.

I'm just saying no shop is perfect. But CCR has some good people, some good techs and THE BEST selection of bows and accessories on this side of the metroplex. Do I have a problem with using Smithfield? Nope. Then again I don't have a problem driving 35+ miles to David's Outdoors in Weatherford knowing I will get great service, fair prices and a great tech working on my gear as well.

Not sure what day but if you go any place on a Saturday, be prepared to wait your azz off. CCA should have a "take a number" machine, because at least you can walk around shopping while waiting your turn, really goes for any place.

IMO, I wouldn't take a bow to Cabelas or Bass Pro but that's just me.

Passthru,
I agree no shop is perfect and I know there are good people at CCR, some who reached out to me after my bad experience. I hold those people in high respect for standing up to solve a problem.
I have found a shop that can handle my needs and has provided the service needed.

CCR has great potential and with the money they spend on marketing they will bring in New customers all the time. I know they are working to make customer service better but you are only as strong as your weakest person. (weak being Customer service).
