going to SD in Sept. for sharptails and pc's, and back in Nov. for pheasants and grouse. I will also hunt bobs in Tex. if there is any to hunt, if not just hunt what there is and not shoot but a token few for the dog, good luck all

Just a couple of NSTRA trials before season and Texas bobs the remainder of the year.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

Jumping right into it in September taking Dash on a long road trip. First some Dove hunting around Young County TX that might include some Squirrels and catfishing. Then leave from there to Colorado. Looking for a place to hunt Blue Grouse or Band Tailed Pigeon in NM or resident geese in western CO on the way up, but having a hard time finding a place that sings to me, so I may go through the panhandle instead and do a short Dove hunt stop on a trusted TX WMA. Then on to a 100+ year old CO Forest service Linemans cabin at 11,000 ft near the Summitville mine to hunt blue grouse and trout for three days. Then up to the North Park area of CO for a few days to stay in a haunted Guard Station to target Sage Grouse nearby. Will make a few bonus bird hunts as we find them that could be any of Dove, Snipe, Rails, Sharptails, Ptarmigan, Teal, or Band Tails, and of course trout. Then to a Cabin on a large Reservoir in western KS to target Lesser/Greater Prairie Chickens on the Prairie and Teal and Canadas on the lake. Then if there is time and if Dash and I are not totally beat down, maybe a stop on Cheyenne Bottoms on the way home to chase Snipe. Lesser PC went on the threatened list recently, but the zone boundaries have not changed yet and currently Lessers can be taken incidental to hunting Greaters. And Sage Grouse come up for the threatened or endangered list in September 2015, so mostly this is my Grouse Farewell Tour. Iliketohunt is coming up with Blue to join me on the second half of the trip. Lot of firsts for both dogs. Though it is Dash's third long distance hunting road trip, there will be some challenging hunting conditions for man and beast. Going to be a hoot. Rest of the year? Who knows.

Not yet. However, I have a couple of buddies who have dogs that need work. I'll take theirs during the early season trips to help tune them up. I still have room for 1-2 more dogs for each trip.

Sniper John summed up September for us. Get to see if all this training is going to pay off! Other than that there will be a coastal duck hunt somewhere, pheasant somewhere up north, and try to get out to Big Bend for some quail. If we're not hunting we'll be going for some MH passes for Blue.

My work causes everything to be last minute so I will be winging it for the most part.

Be cool to see Blue get his MH. That's a big step. On that front with Dash I think I am backing off some on hunt test training and hunt tests for a season. What I do enter him into this fall will mostly be to support the local clubs and for fun. Though I had a good personal reason for it, I really had been letting that stuff cut into my hunting time way too much. For this season I want to see Dash get more on the job hunting experience, a little more freedom, more wild bird hunting and retrieving, and true versatile hunting.

Ducks/dove in sept/oct

SD for a week in November for sharptails, chickens and pheasant. Possibly duck and geese as well

Late November hopefully CO for quail/duck.

December, Texas quail/duck. Possibly a short trip to KS if it's worth the trip.

Jan, Texas quail/duck and I'd love to do a trip to NM for desert quail.

Say When.....

Staying on our lease in Oklahoma. Might hunt my Dads deer lease west of Jacksboro after deer season if he see's any birds during deer season. The guy that runs our Quail lease was going to one of the cowboy's houses on the Ranch a few weeks ago & saw four coveys from the highway to the cowboys house (maybe 2&1/2 miles?) on the county road, so we are hoping for another decent year.
