You guy running and walking. Need to download RunKeeper. Keeps up with how fast and far you walk or run. Gives you an update every fifteen minutes. Just not sure how good it would work out in the country.

Sneaky, yeah we actually do have a McAlister's, but I've never eaten there - I'll have to check it out.

txtrophy, I must not have been thinking straight, because I live not too far from a Rudy's...could have walked there for lunch and killed two birds w/ one stone.

McAlisters is pretty healthy, and delicious, too. Try it sometime.

Just did part A. Since I was coming off a rest day, so to speak, I hit it pretty hard. Feels good.

We finally rigged that job down. That's a small workout in itself. Going home for a day, then back at it in the morning. I'll do part B tonight at home.

I slacked off at home yesterday. Went fishing with the family instead of working out. Part B will happen today.

Brother, I don't think those days count against you, Wife and kiddo's, are the larger point of getting in shape . I wouldn't call it "slaking", that's being a family man IMO.

Suggestion on lunch.

Off duty from the FD I work away from home, either at the range, or on welding jobs for customers. I've been carrying my lunch for many years. It's cheaper and prevents you from having to stop work, get in the truck, drive to the nearest fast food restaurant and pay for food that isn't good for you. I also carry snacks for 10:30-ish, and 2:30-ish. Keep the fire stoked but not a super full belly. That kills you when you're actually working, physical labor that is.

Also, to go one step further in trying to eat a healthy lunch I smoked doe hind quarters. Get them to 175F internal, then kill the smoker with them wrapped in foil, slowly cooling. Once they're room temperature (next day), slice the crust off exposing the grain of the muscle. Section the muscles and cut across the grain about 1/8" apart. Viola! The healthiest lunch meat there is. No salt, and way less cholesterol than store bought lunch meat. Equally good on a sandwich with mustard, mayo, or barbeque sauce. Put it on whole wheat bread than morning, and look forward to noon arriving.

Okay. Just finished B. It's done. I'm back in my routine. I'll be making Cameron Hanes look like a little girl in no time.

That dude is a freak. I may never reach his level of dedication, but it is something worth aspiring towards.

I had to take today off, and not too pleased with myself for doing so. I don't have much free time tomorrow, either, but I'll make sure to find some time for at least cardio.

Yeah, you can't tell that guy that you don't have time to work out. He'll get up at 3:30 in the morning to ride 20 miles on his bike before work just to make sure he gets his cardio in on busy days.

Got back on the horse today. Did 30 min of cardio followed by about 20 min of core. Time for some tex-mex!

Not yet. I will workout here in a bit if we can get work lined out. The wind has us shut down, and since I don't know when we'll start back up, I can't go anywhere.

I've noticed your doing a lot of core.

Just overall fitness and health. I'm a believer that the core is our foundation, and I think a strong core is key to preventing injury both short-term and long-term.

true a strong core is important, but don't train it at the expense of other muscle groups. Your core acts like a giant stabilizer. its engaged when you work your back, your chest, your shoulders, even when you squat.

a strong core isn't going to prevent a torn rotator cuff or a torn pec regardless.

True. I meant it more towards proper posture and back injuries down the road. I don't want to be a hunchbacked old man. I've got an old friend who spends most of his time slouching on the couch, smoking pot and playing video games. Whenever I see him I'm shocked by his posture and gait - looks like he's only a few years away from hanging out in an old bell-tower, and he's only 29).
