I need expert opinions only...since everyone is an expert all input is valued here...I recently bought an 02 Tahoe z-71 lifted came with nitto mud grapplers 35x12.50x17 on custom wheels. I dont know squat about tires and will consider all input but please base your input on intimate knowledge not hearsay from yore buddies... I am gonna have to put new tires on this beast soon and I want all terrains. Based on ya'lls experience what is the best medium price range all terrain tires by make. I am trying to keep it under $1200 installed. THANKS! coffee I drive 8 miles to work 5 days a week on country roads and all other travel on the tires will be at my east texas deer lease driving on firelanes and lease roads. I have driven only 4wd vehicles since I started driving 35 years ago all hunting/highway miles not four wheeling, I tend to avoid trouble routes as it is easier on my pocketbook...

I've had 4 sets of BFG All Terrain T/A KOs and they are great! I usually get around 55-60,000 miles out of set as long as I rotate them regularly. I DO NOT avoid trouble routes and usually go through rather than around small thorny trees and have only had 3 flats. Recently tried a set of General Grabbers and after 25 days had a rock go through the center of the tread so I took them back and got another set of BFGs.

I have 35' Nitto All-Terrains 35x12.5x19 on my F-150 and only have 9k miles through them. They run great and do me well off-roading even though they're not mud tires.

I'll shoot you a PM.

I'm really liking the new Toyo AT 2, but you will be a little above your price range I believe. Not sure what the 35x12.50x17s are going for. I imagine it will be close, but perhaps slightly over.

This weekend my wife rolled 52,000 mile on the BFG A/Ts on here Tacoma. She mostly drives it to work 15 miles one direction but we do run it to the lease and have gone mudding up there before. They still have 3/32 of tread left before the wear indicator so they should easily make 60,000 miles.
I've had several friends with Nittos and they never get better than 40,000 miles on them from what they tell me. I had a set of ProComp tires on an F-250 years ago and only got 27,000 out of them . Tread wear can really come into play on A/T tires

I run terra grapplers, they aren't a mud tire but here in south texas they do good in the dirt, sand and rocks as we don't see much mud. a mud tire gets eaten up here...however the terra grapplers are not a mud tire and they cake over quick and don't clean themselves very well.

I like the mud grapplers, if your only driving that far to work go and get them, tire size is what is gonna to push your budget.

go down a size or two, I have a 6" lift on my king ranch and run 295/70/17's...which is a hair bigger than a 33" tire.

Anymore I haven't had great luck out of anything. Have nitto terra now and I doubt I'm gonna get 30k out of them. Bfg before only got about 25 so needless to say I'm not very impressed with the quality right now. Set five fore was toyo mud and I had 66k and still had life left

Nothing better than some BFG all terrains. Great tread pattern and great tread life. It's the only tire IMO that has both.

I have a 2004 z71 Tahoe. I got 59.5K miles out of my last set of BFG All Terrain T/A KOs. Spent about $1K on them. I'm running Nitto Terra Grapplers now. Spent just over $800 for the set. I like them, but don't think they'll see more than 40-50K miles. They are quieter and ride better on-road than the BFGs, but that's because they're not as stiff (2-ply vs. 3-ply sidewalls I believe, could be wrong). No issues so far (closing in on 20K miles).

Duratrac and Toyo AT II are a lot better but also cost a lot more.

I would look for something besides the BFG if it were me. I see them get worn quickly and are louder than I would want.

I think how you take care of the tires means more for how long they last than which brand they are.

First thing I would do in buying a used lifted vehicle that needed tires was check out all of my front end suspension/steering components. Unless it has already been done its probably going to be an issue and something good to tend to before it screws up a 1500 dollar set of tires. Past that if its gonna be used off road I always like a load range E and keep them rotated and they should last a long time.
