Only a couple weeks away from heading down to Matt Cuz's place in Mexia. Looking very forward to it (as I've pretty much had everything packed for some time haha). This will only be my 2nd hog hunt ever, and out of the group I'm going with I'm the only one that's gotten a chance to even see a hog.
So I want stories people. Recount your first experience with a wild hog. Was it awesome, or a nightmare?
Thanks, Jhog

Mine was out at my friends place. We were walking along and a herd of probably 40 whitetail came along hauling butt, chasing them was probably 20 hogs. Emptied a 30rd ar clip pretty fast. Such an adrenalin rush!

First one I shot was on probably the coldest day of deer season with the temps in the teens. I started in a box blind but after getting cold I decided to get out and do a little walking and sitting. While I was walking through the thick woods a lone boar was trotting right strait towards me. I raised my 270 and realized the scope was on 9 power and couldn't find him. I tried to dial it down but it was very difficult with thick gloves on. I finally got a shot on him when he was about 20 feet from me. When I hit him he went slidding up to a stop about a foot in front of me. Defiantly a rush. He weighed about 250.

First wild/feral pig I ever saw was while deer hunting in Jonesboro in 1983, I think it was. Could have been '82. I was in a tree stand and this huge black blob came out of the treeline to my left about 150 yards out dragging/carrying a dead doe. My first thought was black bear, but I knew there weren't any around there. I scoped in on him and he was the biggest ugliest thing I'd ever seen. (I hadn't met my future mother-in-law yet) I decided he was simply too ugly to live and put a .25-06 round in his ear-hole. I didn't know jack about wild pigs, of course, and had him processed into a pickup bed full of the most God-awful inedible sausage I've ever tasted. Stray dogs wouldn't even eat it. In their defense, it was also the processing plant's first wild hog and they didn't know how lean the meat was. The sausage was like chewing a mouthful of #4 shot. I still have his cutters somewhere. They were pretty big at the base but broken off.

My first hunt, I was Walking along a treeline and spot lighting with red light with my hunting buddy and we were talking about "what if" scenarios and "it would be cool if" type talk when my buddy scans and sees our first ever group and he whispers, "what's this?" And I about yelled excitably, "pigs" and took aim and shot the big momma and her babies went every which direction in the chaos, including at us and my buddy was yelling, "they're coming at us!" I emptied the bolt guns 5 shots at the close ones and a shot at a far runner and only hit the first one I aimed at. It was awesome and a total rush.

It was about 15 years ago. I was late getting to the blind so it was already day light. I was walking the edge of a wheat field to get to my tripod, came around a corner and spooked some cattle. The cattle took off across the wheat field, over a rise. 30 seconds later, they came hauling butt back towards me.
I thought it may be a cougar since one had been spotted there recently. I crept up to the rise to see what had scared them. Sure enough, about a dozen hogs were rootin around on the opposite edge of the field. I laid down and rested my 243 on my back pack.
I didnt know about shooting them in the head, so I put the first shot behind the shoulder of a long haired calico. They took off from right to left and I threw all the lead I had at them. Ended up recovering 2, and painted the rest of the wheat field with blood trails.
Guess it kinda goes without saying; but I was hooked after that!

My first pig was a blast. I had my 94 30-30 and was scouting a woods to deer hunt when I head something running thru the leaves. It was about 15 hogs of different size like marauders running down a trail. I thought they were coming my way but cut off and ran up a gully. I figured they were headed for a small tank and began to circle around,. I came up on the tank rim to find the pigs working over the side of the dike. They busted and began to run back the way they came. I was able to crack off a couple shots at a nice black sow. I hit her far back but it was enough to put her down. Like the others, I was hooked! It was really nice to get it with my lever gun.

Along time ago(15 years?)... In a galaxy far far away(Forida)...
It was a period of war. The hogs had been attacking the deer feeders on a regular basis. A young jedi named Unclebubba was on a scouting mission weeks before deer season was to start. A few yards from one of the feeders, the young jedi spotted a black sow lurking in the palmetos. She was waiting, plotting her ambush on the corn still on the ground. She saw him and dashed through the palmettos toward safety. The young jedi pulled his blaster (Ruger Blackhawk), and tracked the fleeing hog, leading her ever so slightly. At just the right moment, He unleashed 158 grains from his blaster, and the sow tumbled head over heels. It was the first victory in a long war with the Swine Empire.

My 13 year old daughter and I were deer hunting in Divine. Where they claimed they never saw any hogs. She said "DAD! there's a BEAR at the feeder" I quickly recognized that that wasn't a bear, and told her to shoot it, it was DRT. It was the first hog for both of us. I have heard several bear stories since and I wonder how many people really saw a black hog in dim lighting.

I saw my first hog in the early 80's. Don't remember if I trapped or shot the first one. That year we killed or trapped and cleaned 56 hogs.I got tired of cleaning them and actually started to hate the taste of them after eating them for a year. I have hated hogs every since then. I kill everyone I see now.
