While looking at lesser prairie chicken I noticed Greater Sage Grouse comes up for the same decision to be listed as threatened or endangered with a deadline of September 2015. With the lesser prairie chicken decision this month as Threatened, I think it is very likely Sage Grouse will be listed as one or the other too. Yet another game bird gone without an open season. So no more than one, maybe two seasons left. frown Might be time to cash in my Utah Sage Grouse points.

Sounds like it would be a tough hunt.

I've learned that we have at least 2 types up here around me. I've seen and have heard them when I went Chantrell hunting/picking late last summer. One of my neighbors has a GSP (untrained) that he uses to nab a few grouse. Says the dog "runs 'em" till he catches up to them. I may take my lab this coming season after I get to learn these woods around me.

The only place that I've ever seen Prairie chickens was near Texas City while we were playing golf. That was years ago. A friend of mine that has lived in TX City his whole life "used" to see them often. (he is 64)

Still tentative, but it was now or never on making cabin reservations. I made my best guess on Season dates and made cabin reservations in CO and KS already. I know there are better places for Sage Grouse, but looking to hunt the North Park range first, then west only if I have to. On the way home I can hunt Prairie Chicken in the NW zone provided KS does not close the Sept season. If there is still a Utah Sage Grouse Season in Sept 2015, and it looks like Sage Grouse is going on the threatened/endangered list, I will then plan a farewell to the SG hunt for Utah along with hunting whatever else is in season up there. Yes, it would be a tough trip for man and beast and the hunting will be challenging, but that makes it that much more of an adventure.
