Pretty sure does will be out and about tomorrow. How many shoot them pre rut? Where I hunt it's normally 2-3 weeks before rut kicks in. Might even let my oldest boy try his hand at it, he is 9.

Anytime you have one in front of you is a good time if you have to shoot some.

I wouldn't shoot them during or after the rut.

My $.02 is shoot does and culls prerut. Just makes sense to me to cull inferior bucks before they pass genes and shoot does before bucks waste time covering them. I do not always practice what I preach.

Shooting does is an essential part of deer management. The question isn't when but which. As I am trying to manage our property with the impact of the drought I have been reading that only about 50% of does are successful moms. If this is correct than shooting a doe with a fawn or yearling is reducing your successful breeding herd. I am now focused on does that do not have yearlings in tow. By this I hope improve the herd but maintain the successful breeders.

Any culls/management deer prior to the rut. Totally agree with prior post on the cull bucks not breeding and the meat on both does and bucks is way better.

Call the TPWD office in your region and ask a warden or a biologist. You'll get an educated answer. No offense to ANYONE else who has replied. One of you may be a biologist and your answer could be a very educated one.

Shoot before the rut is ideal.

Before rut - one bird one stone.
After rut - two birds one stone.

I'm in Hardin county. For our lease, as soon as you see it cause our season effectively ends after Dec 1. No bucks that either make AR, and after Dec 1 you have to be on MLD or have LAMPS permits. We are not MLD, and the owner (whichever tree company it is) doesn't provide LAMPS tags.

I'm one and done on tree leases.
