Picked up my axis from the taxidermist today. Guy did a good job....too good in fact. This thing looks like its literally growing out of my wall and makes my other mounts look bad.

anyone have to deal with new vs. old mounts?

what is the best way to deal with the obvious difference in age and quality. Put them as far apart from each other as possible?

I've got several done years ago that don't compare to my last few I've had done at sportsman memory in Grapeland . I just have them all in living room together. I've thought about taking them old ones in to get touched up by them.

He did my whitetails, he did a great job on those as well.

main issue I have is my old axis mount. Thing is 7-8 years old and well taken care of, but the taxi that did used a undersized mold which shrunk his neck down considerably.

work is ok but next to this mount it looks like a middle school art class did it. Now I'm in a quandary: do I let him re-mount the original axis with different cape(not keen on doing that because of the unique coloration and scar pattern) or leave it as is?

wonder if he can put the old cape on a new form?

Just like wimmens, when age and quality go down hill just replace them...and YES, keep them as far apart as possible or it could be disastrous. grin

I kid, but truthfully I threw my old mounts away when they got noticeably old & ugly looking.

not gonna throw away a $500 mount.

might take it to the ranch or something

its not really that small his horns measure 27"x28.5" just the angle they are at makes it seem small

Here he is shortly after his demise

notice how the taxi shrunk him up

What's that blue shiny object behind your Uncles foot? J/K. Keep both of the Axis, they look great.

June 2006

It was about 100 degrees that day.

I think, the whole wall looks great. I agree I would loose that plaque, but other then that I think YOU know the 1st one lost some size, but the average person would never know. I agree with you about wanting to keep your cape and see your animal. If in 6 months or a year you still feel the same, then think about having remounted with a new cape. Either way wonderful trophies.
