Hi, my name is Tyler. I currently live in Georgia butam moving to the Waco area in November. I'm an avid duck Hunter and have hunted Georgia and Arkansas for about 8 years now. Ive never hunted Texas and dont know too much oabout it other than there are a lot of teal and divers. Im not asking for lake names or places to hunt but just wondering how the hunting in within an hour or 2 of Waco. What kind of ducks are common and are there many snow geese in that area to hunt? Not trying to cyber scout just trying to get a general idea of what to expect once I get out there. Thanks in advance!

A 2 hour radius from Waco should give you a good variety of habitat to hunt and a good amount of birds. Puddle ducks are fairly common in Texas, lots of greenheads.
Any creature in my vicinity that possesses an explosive penis is going to be killed.

Hi Tyler,
I live in Waco and am going on my 4th year here.
It is probably not excellent hunting, but you can hunt Corp of Engineering land around Lake Waco for FREE. Not only is it free, but it is roughly ten to fifteen minutes from anywhere in Waco, which makes weekday morning hunts doable. I saw a couple groups of ducks leaving the feed fields the other morning while dove hunting.
I do not have all the necessary duck decoys / calls / etc, but I would love to get in on some hunts with you once you arrive if you would like company. I can also show you around the Corp land, if you want.
Feel free to contact me with any questions, etc, whether it pertains to hunting or simply Waco in general.
Why are you moving to Waco?

Thanks for the info! It will be nice to have a variety. Here in my part of ga we have mostly wood ducks, mallards and Canada geese. Are there snow geese and Canada geese in the area enough to hunt?

There are a lot of fields about and hour east or more that holds snows. Just got to get permission. Usually better in second split. I don't know to much abou hunting snows and it's to much work that's why I don't

Hour soth of Waco. I'm trying to get permission to hunt ducks on my neighbors place. He lets us fish but never asked if we could hunt. The ponds have tons of ducks in the second split.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Welcome to the forum! I hunt just northeast of waco on a pond at my grandmas, bout an hour and half and I have a lot of success in the second split. I harvest mostly widgeon, pintail, and canvasback. We occasionally have mallards and teal join in, but I would say thats only 15-20% of the time. Lots of numbers here, just gotta know what to look for. Good luck with your first Texas Season and welcome to the greatest state created by Gods own hands!

Creeksidelc...you'll be fine. Lots of public hunting and tons of private where you can get a lease or get in good with land owners. It can take years to develop a portfolio of duck hunting spots for me it's more about boots on the ground, dash board time, and old fashion networking. If you have been duck hunting for a while you probably already do these things.
I'm to the point where it's very rare that I mess with public hunting.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!
