Not to threadjack, but isn't it illegal to kill deer and elk with a 22LR?

It's illegal to kill whitetails in the state of Texas with a rimfire. It's not illegal to kill exotics, as far as I know, which elk are in Texas. He also didn't specify what species of deer.

Fella's,

I understand your point. Nothing in the OP concerning pistol grip shotgun option led me to believe it was for hunting out of a truck.

I took it to mean a defense weapon with an occasional opportunity at pigs. At some point in our lives our reaction time, eyes, knees, shoulders and backs don't allow us to be as "ready" as we once were. For me open sights with a pistol in low light or night situations is much slower and difficult than just a few years ago. A shotgun gives you a little wiggle room and a whole lot more intimidation and stopping power.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

This! Also carry a pistol .45acp or .40s&w with me in the truck.

I am a believer of the power of intimidation of the sound of a 12 ga pump chambering a round I have unseated a bicycle rider while on guard duty he flew off the bike and landed on his feet hands in the air at that point they only see the muzzle not the butt stock

I like a semi beat up ( well used) Ruger 77 in 25.06 to .270. That will bust just about anything you run across and the gun is dang near indestructible. Got one in a .257 roberts that likes to shoot yotes. Dang accurate too.

Okay my bad, this is a great ranch gun. I get the gist that you are looking for shotgun sorry.

I just picked up a Kel Tec Sub 2000 for a dedicated vehicle gun. Folds up nice and small, takes Glock 9mm magazines and is relatively cheap. 33 rounds of 9mm hollow points should take care of anything that needs taking care of in the car!

My opinion is that you already have a pistol, which is significantly more useful for close range self defense than any long gun in the close quarters of a vehicle cab.

If you have ever been in the dark or on the other side of door and heard that sound, It will put a hitch in your giddy up for sure!

Me too. I appreciate when an opposing party demos to me that they have zero tactical situational awareness (SA), and are only just now getting themselves prepared for the fight. Plus it is really cool that they tell me where they are, what type of gun they have, etc....

meh...

Personally, I don't go looking for folks with a loaded shotgun.

Most criminals probably wouldn't, either.

But since we don't know for sure the mindset of our opponent, I think it is unwise to gift them knowledge that we weren't ready for the fight from the onset, and now what we are bringing to the fight. No, I don't consider a shotgun -- including in a residence -- to be the most wonderful weapon to have for an upcoming fight.

But hey, to each their own. Although the only thing I find about as ridiculous as the concept of trying to scare someone with the racking sound of a shotgun is maybe adding the idea of holding a flashlight away from one's body, a la Hollyweird in the 70's....

IF I ever have to pull a shotgun (or any gun) on anyone, I'm perfectly fine with them knowing that:

1) I AM THERE!
2) I AM ARMED! and
3) I HAVE A BEAD ON THEM (otherwise, most likely they wouldn't know I'm there)
