.308TAC shoot me a PM if you want to go chase some birds. You supply the birds and I'll supply the dogs! Haha In all seriousness, I'm only a couple hours to your east.

I've never been around quail but I think I saw my first covey the other day. Are there any other birds that would let you get right on top of them, then exploded into the air and stay about 20 feet off the ground?

You have to be kidding me.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

I have seen more quail this year then I ever have. It is awesome to see them again. Dont think that I will ever hunt them again in my area, I'd feel bad as I havent seen ANY in 6 or 7 years.

Saw a covey of 10-12 birds last weekend. That is the only covey I have seen in the past five years.

Obviously the upland forum isn't as forgiving as the others. I've hunted everything else texas has to offer my entire life but know nothing about quail or other non-game birds that might act similar. Just trying to learn more

Now even more interesting that in all that hunting you never saw a quail? I don't know a deer hunter who hasn't moved a covey. But welcome to the forum, you'll learn a lot about quail here..

I'm sorry. I thought you were joking around. Yes, you saw a covey of quail. Where did you see them?

Thick skinned only wish I woulda been jokin. West of San Angelo, saw a pair of bobwhites, then the covey I think was blues. Another guy here said it's looking to be the best year in many

The last good year I can remember was 1996, I believe, followed by 1991. I was in Mexico several years ago, about twenty miles south of Acuna. Never in my life had I seen as many quail as was down there.

I know a lot of deer hunters here in East Texas who've never seen a covey. I suspect most of them under 30 have not.

I just came back from So Texas, McMullen County. Lots of Dove and Quail and very wet and green. Quail are raising their 3 rd hatch.

Well you got me there, I was thinking more west Texas. I know that I hear them every year when I fish on fork in the spring, but there's a lot of land over east with no birds. I'll be more specific from here on out grin

Yes sir I do, least I think he's nice. He'll be running with the big boys in shooting dog this season so looking for him to mature and get some lessons from some real good dogs.

I saw you at the Region 7 meeting and I'm sorry I didn't get over to speak to you. My dad got the walking derby of the yr. Good luck with him as a first yr dog.

Went to South dove opener last weekend and saw several large covey's (20 + birds) while hunting in Frio county near Dilley.
Haven't seen many at all in Baylor county on my Deer lease.

yes Chuck it's me. Thank you!! We had a good yr with Joe, he should be with Virgil but dad wants him close. He and my derby are up in the panhandle with Adrian Jackson. They will be coming back for the first walking trial the second wk of Oct. I hope my derby can repeat what we did this past season. She has the wheels and noise. She is half sister to Joe and by Natl Ch Shadow Oak Bo.

I have been seeing several coveys on our place in Collingsworth county and really haven't been on much of the place. I'm pretty encouraged they we may have enough birds to at least get the dog some good work. Hopefully they don't disappear between now and season opening. Coveys have only been 12 or so birds, but definitely seeing more than I've seen in several years.

I've seen covies crossing road almost everytime I hunt in waller. I hear them while I'm out hunting. Havent shot a quail in about 10 years. Been buying them at cajun meat market.
