I will use a .22 cal in 55gr. It is NOT for everyone and it is not forgiving if you cant shoot.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that is very frowned upon using .22 to kill deer seeing as it's a rim fire ammunition

My .22 Hornet placed just behind the ear drops them like a bag of dirt. Haven't gone beyond about 150 yards with it though.

22 cal covers .224 caliber rifles, not a 22LR.

My current minimum is a 243 Winchester. I have hunted deer with a 223WSSM but I like a little more bullet weight and diameter than the 223 offers. I wont knock the 223WSSM though. With a 64gr Winchester Power Point it took down the third biggest hog I have ever killed and it did it very cleanly with a behind the shoulder shot.

hunted with a single shot break action .223 for six years as a kid before upgrading to a .270 in high school. I recovered every deer I ever shot at with that gun. It threw darts.

243 is my minimum, but I usually have my 270 with me during season.

.243 here in Minnesota, if I was still in Texas and hunting Hill Country deer, then I would consider using anything from .222 on up. I think that you should always consider the maximum live weight of the animal you may shoot. Here in MN a 300lb deer (235lbs dressed) is a very real possibility. My largest deer on Ft. Hood dressed out at 88lbs or about 115lbs live weight. The largest that I saw weighed in at 118 dressed which would have been about 150lbs live weight.
