One of the main reasons for the 20 ga is buying the steel shot for duck....if you could get steel shot in a 28 ga cheap then I would shot let my son shoot a 28 ga cynergy

The guys are correct..20 guage and get her some Hevi Shot or the
other expensive stuff so when she hits a bird it will go down..I
hunted geese w/my target shooting buds yrs. ago..with Steel..and
out of thousands of birds we finally got 2...and one of them was
shooting a 10 ga..and I saw the shot blow thru the goose and have
feathers and goose 10 ft past and above it..not a fan of wounding
animals..DD

She want's the Yildiz .410 Side-By-Side. The price is right and it's a nice looking gun with pretty good reviews. If it doesn't work out and I have to buy her a 20ga semi, I wont mind keeping it.

I have an Ildiz SBS 410 w/ screw in chokes..but it's not a beginners..shotgun..I am a better than avg. Skeet shooter..and usually get about 17 or 18 if I really work w/it from a round of
25..Just because it doesn't kick, doesn't mean it's a good hunting weapon..If you want to start her w/a 410, get her a SS 410 w/a Full choke like we all had and let her shoot rabbits, squirrels...ect..that she can aim at..it will never be a great bird gun for a beginner..Oh, you can get reduced loads in a 20 also..but a 28 gauge is a really good choice, no recoil, and it
patterns well...Just buy a reloader so you can afford to shoot it...It's the only guage invented for Skeet..Most comp. shooters
run their first 100 straight in this gauge..DD

I broke out on a 410 bolt action Revelation shotgun my dad bought for me when I was 5. I killed my first deer, a doe with it shooting 3" slug on an oat patch. Killed quite a few doves sitting in mesquite trees as a kid with it too.

But I always wanted a bigger shotgun like the grownups had so he bought me a 20 ga pump. I didnt like it cause it kicked too much for someone my size back then. He traded it for a 20ga Rem 1100 and I loved that gun and still have it today.

The worst thing you can do is over gun a kid.

Bartender, bring me anything except brake fluid, cause I don't plan on stopping!

I'm in the same boat with an 11 year old daughter who is ready to have her own gun. I'm sold on the Weatherby Sa08 20gauge, but on the fence on weather I want the youth or regular model 20 for her.

I don't think she'll ever get into shooting a 12gauge, so it got me thinking it may be better to go with a 26" barrel.

Rooster I promise you wont be able to just go in and buy steel shot for a 28 or a 410 , and neither is a good gun to start a yong hunter out on especially a .410 ,

I had wondered whether the pattern would be larger on the shorter barrels and would it increase the felt recoil? I like the youth model 20ga. semi in a 26in. I agree with over gunning a kid, especially a girl. My first gun was a 12ga 870...I just got used to it I guess but that thing would ring my bell when I was 7 or 8. BIG problem with a semi is $$, she already told me it had to have an engraved duck on it. Any of you guys out there with daughters know what I'm saying, whatever she ask for, she'll likely get....and a 20ga auto loader with a duck engraved on it doesn't come cheap. I know it doesn't have anything to do with hunting but if you don't understand already then I can't explain it to you.

FYI the "LT" does not shoot 3" shells! You will have to go...
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=329594776 to shoot 3" duck loads. Yes a 2.75" shell can kill a duck, but why handicap a new shooter to less down range projectiles, when a step up advantage is so easy to come by.

Get a 20 or 28 gauge gas gun.

Beretta 390 fits the bill as does the Rem 1100.

You can kill them with a .410 but there is a reason .410 is an expert game at the clays range, there ain't no pellets in a .410 shell. The power is there, the pattern is not.

My 10 yr old son uses a Yildiz 20ga over&under. Great starter gun and he only clicks off 2 shots. If he had that third shot HE WOULD USE IT!!!!!!!

I could be wrong but I don't believe that would cycle 2 3/4" shells, especially not reduced recoil. My wife hunts with the lt1100 and it kills ducks just fine. The key, as with any gun, is to pattern different loads to see what the effective range is and what to use in each situation. Good luck on the search, my wife's was bought at a pawn shop.

Rooster I had the same problem after my fourth stroke I had to find something with less recoil so I picked up a Rem1100lt in 20ga. and after getting it I used a Stoeger model 2000 in Max4 camo,12 ga on a goose hunt, now that I shot with one hand I need a very light weight shotgun the stoeger is much lighter then the Rem1100 LT is both in weight and recoil,I can shoot 3" 12ga in the stoeger with less recoil then the 2 3/4" 20gain the Rem 1100LT anybody need a good skeet gun?

let her shoot a 10 gauge with 3 1/2 inch tripple load, followed by a few rounds of a 50 cal smith and wesson.

she will opt for a .410 pretty quickly.

I bought my 7 yr old boy a Rossi single shot 20 gauge for under $200. It also came with a .22 barrel. Big mistake. The 20 gauge kicks a lot harder than my Maxus 12 gauge. No way he will shoot it. It's small and fits him good but it's so light weight it does nothing to offset the recoil. We will use it as a .22 but I doubt I will ever put the 20 gauge barrel back on it. I will get him a youth model semi auto for this season.

i agree, and get an extra stock padding you can find at cabellas, since it will still kick.

i bought a 870 20 gauge and that thing kicks more and is loader than my xtrema.

The 28 ga. doesn't have much kick to it. If she cant handle a 28 ga. she will have to go back to throwing rocks at them.

your welcome to try my 20ga Rem1100 for her if you want too without spending a butch of money on something she doesn't like

hey something my son said that might fit,try one if you can before buying it,because she might feel stuck with it after you spend the money to get it!!!!!! 20years ago I got him a Rem700 BDL 223 that he still hasn't shot once yet (guess what I got for x-mas two years ago,a Rem700 BDL in .223)
