With your collection already I would get something different. Maybe a 6mm, something in 6.5, or 6.8 or a 22-250

Lots of people shoot pigs in the body.

I've shot 12 or 13 pigs. (I know that's not that many) everyone was taken with a 250 savage which some people call a varmint round. A head shot dropped every single one DRT.

If you are body shooting pigs, you do need a bigger gun. But why bother. It's a pig. Shoot for the head. If you somehow miss, big deal. It's just a piggy.

Speaking of being very Teutonic... hows about a CZ 550 Full Stock, long action in 6.5x55, 30'06 or my fav 9.3x62 with ummm Nosler AB or Barnes TTX 250gr'ers at 26-2650 will put a whoopin on just about anything in north america and kick about like a 180gr'er in a '06. Learn to shoot using the perfectly aligned iron sights for tippy toeing in the deep woods, or fudge with a fixed or varialble low power setup and take advantage of the 20.6" barrel's target acquisition speed.

Or order factory ammo from Graf or Midway in slow bargain boolitz Privi 285's for WTails & big piggies out to 250 yards without a scope, to snappy Norma 232's pushing 2900fps for 3-400 yard efforts or up to 320gr SP's & solids for Grizz or Cape Buffalo up close and personal DG fun across the pond.

My first WTail with this caliber, a 125lb mature spike with 8-9"ers on both sides got a airborn "magic carpet ride" of about 35' back up the trail he had emerged from, and had ZERO meat damage using the old style thin jacketed Speer 270 gr SP's at about 24- 2450fps. This caliber is frequently noted for it's consistent accuracy...and usually has very little change in POI from bullet to bullet like a 308 does.

My very first out of the box group with less than max loads of the Speers after the traditional boresighting gave me 3 holes touching and flyer with all 4 under MOA at approx 100 yards. Shot prone, in a crowd at a non regulated non managed range in Tom Bean near the high school...and now closed from all the skips that made it over the 15-20' high backstop from the spray & pray crowd. Like the 6.5 Swede's stellar performance, the 9.3x62 is a World Class hunting caliber. Got one in a 550 American and been made a believer for anyone that wants try mine.

.30-06, ammo is abundant and recoil is not an issue if u are not firing more than one shot. As stated above, the .30-06 can take anything from small game to the largest game available here in the U.S

Over 50 yrs of hunting and shooting Texas and other states I've worn out 7mm Rem Mags and 300 Win Mags ect..all great weapons..and lots of overkill and occasionally I took much too long a shot when younger..I now cull shoot a .308 in a Sako TRG Mod 21 or my Rem 700 L/H both sub MOA weapons. But none of the standard production rifles compare to the TRG..The .308 has cheap ammo usually always available and you can usually get a fairly accurate weapon from anyone you do buisness with..Ruger has a new Scout Rifle w/a short bbl and 10 round clip right or left handed out which would be a good rifle..I'd not keep any of them if I couldn't get at least 1 MOA or better from my rifle..DD
