Most hunters here in Texas drive to a stand to hunt so does it really matter how big the whole ranch is when all you are hunting is the small area around your stand?

Yes it does. That is diverting from the original post BTW.

Catto Gage ranch near Marathon and the O2 south of Alpine, not sure of the exact size, but both were monster spreads...

I also hunted a 20,000 acre place out of Barnhart. 1,000 acres was his bull pasture so we could only actually hunt 19,000 acres.

We held a lease outside of Eldorado that was 10k, hunted that place for 15 years. I go to the Indianhead all the time with is 10k. In RSA we hunt a 60k acre low fence place.

5K HF in Bandera. When you add in all the hills, it's more like 10K. The ranch manager told me the fence line was about 17 miles.

Thanks,
Rich

In Texas, about 25-30,000 acres, although my pasture was only about 1400 acres. Current lease outside Abilene is 4500 acres

In Africa, we hunted a couple LF places that were between 10-20k acres. The HF Concessions were from 80,000-140,000 acres.

On the other end, my Boerne lease is less than 50 acres LF, but sits next to a 3000 acre preserve with no hunting. I see WAY more critters on that small parcel than I did on my South Texas 1400 acre pasture. Way more. They just travel through my parcel to/from the preserve.

Deer, 1000 acres largest, 52 acres smallest

If you count prarie dogs as hunting then it's 90,000 acres. First year we were there we both said "dang it's big" eek2 I could see plenty of God's earth beyond an Aeromotor, but I bounced a laser off of it at a mile, from where I was standing.

One of those places that makes you feel small.

106,000 acres, if I remember correctly. Never saw the whole thing.

Lease some land on about 15,000 acres right now, and am lucky to go to a 10,000 and 15,000 acre places in South Texas every now and then.

I would describe both as free chase.

how is the hunting on the kennedy?

I read a book about Sarita East and how the La Para ranch was aquired by the Catholic Church

The hunting is really good, the drought was hard on the animals last year, but had some good rain in May, so that should at least get the racks developed. Hope more rain is to come.

Their other ranch in Douglas is over 550K.
Probably more antelope on that one ranch than in Texas. The North Platte runs across it so it has some giant whitetails too.
The owners are just normal ranchmen that drive old pickups and work everyday.

Put in 6 wells for ARCO back in the early 80's just nth of Douglas, we had antelope bed down just off the location.

It is amazing country. This ranch has whole Indian villages tee pee rings, eagle traps the indians put out and you can find arrowheads just about anywhere. Now they ruining it with tons of windmills. The big sky country is turning into the big windmill country.

In Texas 5000 acres near Rocksprings back in the early 70s.
In New Mexico 457,000 Vermejo Park, now belongs to Ted Turner, some really beautiful country, lots of Huge mule deer, elk and several buffalo on the place-early 80s
