been Cabelas last night, checked out the Tikka T3 Lite 300 win mag. only 6.5lbs.and the barrel was thin, sales said, that caliber will kick a lot with light rifle. Also, the bullet will walk pass 400 yards with the light barrel.
But the price is really good. so, I thought about add on the muzzle brake on it. still cheaper that the heavy barrel one.
any suggestions?

A 6.5lb 300WM is a 6.5lb 300 WM, if you are recoil shy, its not for you. If you are not a puss when it comes to recoil its a good lightweight rifle that will most likely shoot real well. The one I had was real accurate with most loads I fed it from 165's to 200's. I personally wouldn't own a rifle with a muzzle break.

No, it is true accuracy may suffer as a lite barrel heats up with long shot strings. the barrel does not have an effect on a bullet that is 400 yards away. put a good recoil pad on it and enjoy. recoil is brisk with a lite rifle in a larger round but no unmanageable. the lite rifle is a pleasure to carry around hunting

What you are saying about barrel thickness makes no sense.

watching the slow motion to compare the thin and thick barrel, you will see the difference. the thin barrel will shaking more than thick barrel. maybe very little, that will make the group different after the long distance shoot. 1mm difference won't shows under 200yards. but will shows on 400 or 600.

Are you buying the rifle to hunt with or as a longrange benchrest rifle? If your looking to plink long range, then your kind of looking at the wrong rifle. If you want a lightweight hunting rig that is notoriously accurate, comes with an easy to adjust crisp trigger and one of the smoothest actions from a box store rifle then get the Tikka. It will have no issues with accuracy to 600 yards if you use appropriate BC loads and have optics able to make those shots.

that is my hunting rifle, but will bring it to the range sometimes too. lets say 80% hunting and 20% targeting. I like the light weight hunting rifle for carry around, just worry about the kick with 300 win mag. if it is 30-06 that will be fine I think. But this time I want something little bit more power.so like to go 300 win mag.
yes, maybe I need get one and try. how hard to find the stock and barrel for the Tikka T3 lite if I want get it upgrade later?
Thank you guys very much..

What KMON just said +1
Not having used a B&C Medalist with the full length aircraft quality aluminum bedding block personally...that'd be the direction I'd take IF I was concerned about the Carbon Fiber filled Tikka stock moving on recoil.
I did put a ready fit Limbsaver on my T3 270 that cured my Plavix blood thinner bruising that I got from the factory pad, and am able to run 40+ rounds of 270's PLUS 2 or 3 other calibers at about the same number of rounds in a bench session that will include a 30cal Magnum in 165's & 180's and a 9.3x62 in 250's, 270's & 286 gr'ers ... but then since I am a 68 year old wuss I also use an ancient hardened up PAST shoulder strap pad for everything ...except 22rimfires.
As JG said long off the bench shot strings will heat any barrel up eventually and cause them to "walk" aka "spray" normally tight groups. But my T3 6lb 2oz bare nekkid 270 in the same barrel contour will give me 10-12 rounds in under 5 minutes before I even begin to suspect that the barrel is walking on me...and I've never needed 10-12 rounds to kill anything in a that big a hurry ... and this is not a FireFight shooter as the critters I hunt are all unarmed at past tooth and claw range.
OBTW If you'll learn to shoot standing off some good Shooting Sticks you will be pleasantly surprised at how little you feel the recoil with proper technique, and the long range accuracy possible.
I also WILL NOT USE A MUZZLE BRAKE ever again on any rifle I can pick up and hold...50BMG's notwithstanding. JHMO & YMMV Cheers Ron

I shoot a tikka 300wsm. Definitely not a range rifle, but you will not find a better hunting rifle for the price. Carrying up and down the mountains for a week, I'll take the extra kick for what I save in weight. Plus they are extremely accurate with an easily adjustable trigger.

For range sessions buy a PAST recoil pad/shield (you wear it on your shoulder). It's the best of both worlds: no effect on hunting, but makes range sessions much more pleasant.

B&C Medalist stocks I've seen some use here are nice. Like this one my buddy put on his. Completely changes the feel of the rifle (to me) and is a good upgrade.

How about the upgrade part for Tikka T3 Lite. such as Barrel and stock. I think after you shoot it you will be trying to remember what you wanted to upgrade. Buy a limbsaver pad before you ever shoot it. They work as advertised. My wife went from shooting 7-8 rounds and quitting to shooting unlimited rounds (50 last outing) in her T3 lite 7-08. Just from the pad change. $30-40 well spent.

TX Rifleman,
Any thickness of barrel can be made to shoot with hand loads. Depending on the quality of the barrel and the quality of the loads. When searching for the accuracy node one is, keeping all other factors in control form of the experiment, search for the right powder charge. One is looking for a bullet to exit the barrel in the part of the sine wave when the barrel has flexed upward, paused, bullet exits, barrel rebounds downward. That is the accuracy node.
You may have a powder charge spread, especially in a long magnum, 1.0 gr below to 1.0 gr above the "sweet spot" and the rifle still shoots well. Heavy barrels allow longer shot strings before the barrel heats up and harmonics change. But even the thinnest contour can still shoot sub MOA if the barrel is allowed to cool. Obviously ambient air temperature is a factor.

My way of looking at it is that adrenaline will help me manage recoil when the time comes, but fatigue doesn't ever seem to help much with the weight of the rifle on a long hike...

Boyds ( http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/) are planning to make a stock for Tikka this summer (that's what I was told by their folks). They also offer a nice recoil pad as an extra feature.
