If you were to take 4 weapons that can be purchased at any typical gun store as a means to defend yourself what would they be?

When the SHTF, ammo is the weak link. Whatever you can get ammo for would be my choice.

I reload 357, and have a good supply of components, so 357 lever and Ruger blackhawk would top my list. Also would want a high capacity 9,40, or 45 in whatever caliber I have the most ammo for. Last would be my savage .270.

I, like lots of others here have plenty of options from our existing lineups.

That is until the tragic boating accident at our last THF "Bring It All And Show It Off" event. The transport ferry out to the location went down, ironically in the deepest part of the lake. An incredible number of member's entire personal collections were lost forever.

Luckily we could all swim, and no one was injured or lost. grin

My Mossberg 500 12 gauge
Marlin Papoose .22 takedown for my pack
Bear takedown recurve
Machete

I don't know if I would take anything else, weapon wise. Hauling around 4 guns would get kinda heavy. I would be staying small and inconspicuous as I could.

I'm surprised at the number of people that like the 10/22 "to defend yourself". While I think it is a great gun for general use, it is far from the top 4 for defense of myself or family.

If it were today it would be the following:
45acp
12 ga
30-06
10/22
but like gunny said, there will be plenty of options laying around when SHTF so pack light up

Yep, I get that. But the OP asked for opinions on best 4 guns to defend yourself.
