I have a stand near a creek on our Coke county lease. I feed year round and the hogs pretty much take over from February thru the summer. I harass them mercilessly during daylight (we cant hunt at night) and have done a pretty good job of at least making them nocturnal so the deer get 1st crack at the feed. I noticed that the piglet will hang around their dead momma after I shoot her and even hang around when the sows run away. I decided it might be a viable way to do some hog control by killing the stupid babies, so I set up my tricked out 1022 to shoot CCI stingers at 100 yards. The groups aren't great but it does the job as Ive killed 4 out of a group of 8 after killing the sow. Here's a PIC: Anyone else tried this? It seems like a pretty good way to help a little with hog control. Also, these little guys and gals are TASTY! Deer came into this feeder just a few minutes after I took this picture so the 22 isn't bothering them.

I use my .22 mag all the time when I do see hogs when making rounds. It is sighted dead on at 25 yds and it pretty accurate out to 100-125 yds. I have feed pens around my feeders to keep the hogs away, so I don't get to shoot at to many hogs.

Smells like a barnyard down there.

To many hogs around a feeder can ruin a good hunting spot.

We'll trap a sow with piglets and leave her in the trap til all the babies are taken care of. Its real fun to take the kids out and and let them chase em around. I need to video that.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

I use bigger bullets. If you watch pigs after their moms have been shot, they'll run and once the lead pig stops they'll bunch, something bigger can get you doubles & triples with each pull of the trigger

I like to catch them. The lil piggies are quick, but they run out of steam pretty quick. I'll chase them for 100 yards or so then just pick them up. Once they're panting, they're pretty easy to catch.
Tried to raise/domesticate 4 of them, but they all came down with something bad a couple weeks after capture and died. Bummed me out.

I never really thought about targeting the piglets after the sow was down. I just figured "nature" (ie boars and coyotes) would take care of them. Good thought though. May have to change my tactics a bit 'cause they are good eating that small.

Have a friend that has a 10-22 with a suppressor on it that stays in deer stand with him for hogs and it works pretty well.

piglets turn into big pigs. whack em now, save yourself some heart-ache later.... grill em up...sure it aint as much meat, but it all cooks the same. they make great pets until they hit 300...then ya dont want to eat em so ya donate them to a farm.....but dont ask how they are doing... lol

The reverse works sometimes too... catch some babies but not momma, sometimes she'll be hanging around out side the trap.

May have to change my tactics a bit 'cause they are good eating that small. I thought this also, but I found the little guys would just hook up with another group of sows for protection. Give it a try, its fun!

Surprising how many animals can be caught if you can keep sight of them or have a light snow to track them. As long as you have the stamina & endurance. Most prey animals are built for the short run.

Ive killed 8 of the 12 out of this litter now. They are up to about 20-25 lbs and the Stingers still drop em in their little tracks. Got 3 in 4 shots this last trip. Somehow missed the 1st one, which I had the best shot on....

This is my record smallest piglet. I believe in karma because 5 minutes after I shot it my appendix started to rupture and I had to drive to the hospital in Lubbock 2 hours away.

nice and tender, easier to clean a no brainer. I prefer smaller pigs myself. They do make great pets after a few weeks. We trapped a few and when we put them in the pen they charged. after a while they got tame and would feed out our hands. We were raising them to harvest them later. They would eat tomatoes, squash and share watermelons with the cows. After a while they got bigger and escaped the pen. Funny thing is that rather than running away they just kind of hung around for the food. I shot one of them and even after I did the others would still come back avery so often at different times. When th ey get bigger they become a pain in the [censored]. 2-3 trailer loads of food a week
I only lie when I tell the truth.
