After ten glorious years we have lost our lease. My boys grew up on this ranch and are heartbroken as am I. A lot of work ahead of us as we dismantle 10 feeders, blinds, pens, etc.. before August. We had a 20x30 cabin with full kitchen and shower we put in, great place to get out of the weather, play cards and dominos. Been hunting with my buddies together for nearly 20 years on only 2 leases and scared to think it might end. I only hope we can find just one more place I can share with my boys and buds, before I am too old.

Sad to hear that. After ten seasons, I'm sure the ranch is a part of you
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Been there.Change is a part of life. The memories are always with you.
I finally bought a place. Big life sacrifice but determined to not let that happen again. Good luck and good hunting. It's OK life goes on.

That really sux for you and your family; I can't imagine it.
My daugher and her husband lost their lease this year too and they were sick over it; they paid for the whole year and the land owner sold it before season opened, the new ownwer refuned half their money and they could only hunt it the first two weeks of Nov.
I hear stories like this all the time; and it's a bad deal all the way around.
Sorry brother.

Sorry to hear. We are looking as well, 2nd lease that's sold in the last 3 years.
Must be a common thing this year ( folks losing leases ). I've never seen as many people in the Land and Lease section looking for leases as there are this year.

I hate to hear it when this happens. I hope you find somewhere to hang your hat and enjoy for many more years. We have had our lease for over 20 years and just keep waiting to hear the bad news, but so far so good.

I know exactly how you feel. We lost a lease several years ago that we had been on for over 25 years.

Sorry brother. That's the kind of stuff that gives landowners a bad name with hunters. That is flat out sorry right there (and yes, I am aware this is a two-way street). To the OP I'm sorry about your predicament. My father and I have hunted to same lease for 27 years and slowly, surely I am starting to see the inevitable coming.

It suxs! I was with the same group from 1974 when I started hunting with my Dad up until 2006, two leases, but the same owner. Granchilluns took over in 2002, things went OK each year, till we got a call to have our stuff off within the month. The old man had about 4000 acres, along with his sisters land. The last 500 acre parcel is forsale now!
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

Sorry to hear that. I too lost my lease this year. My kids are grown now, so I will be hunting public land and out of state - cheaper.

Update - what makes this worse than my original post is that the guy I was leasing it from was a broker, who was actually a friend, or so I thought! I got a major shaft on this deal.w The ranch I am (was) on was part of a 4 properties that the ranch owner either owned or leased from his uncle, who recently passed. Our piece was owned by the uncle, and the ranch owner who leased from his uncle just sold his property and retired. He then gave up his rights to his leased land. My (now former) broker, who also hunted on the ranch owners land, then cut a deal with the Uncles inheritors, to take control of our place. He knew we had put a lot of work into the place, the cabin, deer management etc... Basically, he had to get off the ranch owner property because he sold, so kicked us off with a lame excuse so he could take over. 10 years of paying him on time, no issues with our group of 7 men, and a well improved ranch. I can say the place will be stripped before we leave, of all that is rightfully ours. The cabin itself will stay, but the stovetop/oven and shower and wood burning fireplace will go. Along with all the electrical panels we put in. Same with all the blinds, feeder fences, etc.... Any blinds we leave he will buy at a premium, or if not, I am guessing the spring storms will blow them down, after I remove all my cabling and turnbuckles.
Sorry for the rant, just hate getting hosed.

I am sorry you lost your lease, but what do you think "lease" means? It means it isn't yours. Sounds like you treated the property as your own when it never was. It sucks, but the result is the difference between being the tenant and being the owner. It is the owner that has the rights to determine the disposition of the property. Every time your lease was to be renewed, you stood the chance of losing it.

While this is very true it still sucks when it happens. Of course it does, but that doesn't make the land owner a bad guy, as implied. A lease is business, plain and simple.

Removing the cabling and turnbuclkes so stands will blow over does not speak well.....

I know you're pissed off, but I'd also be careful about over-stripping of the cabin. Leasehold improvements typically attach to the property permanently.
Not saying he would and not saying he wouldn't, but it sure would be a kick in the teeth to get sued and lose after getting kicked off a lease.
