Just wanted to see if anyone had or has one of those Chineese ATV.. and what you think about them? I am looking at used one made by tao-tao 150CC; From all research I know there are cheap, but I just looking for something that I can leave at the lease (by my rancher house) during the deer season and not worry about it..
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

stealing one of those is like stealing a shovel or manual post hole digger. All three will put you to work!

You wouldn't have to worry about anybody stealing it.

Took two in on a trade with the intentions of cleaning them up and selling. I ended up keeping one for my son he is older now but still talks about how much fun he had with it. I basically stripped it down painted and reassembled minus a lot of unwanted features and wiring. Not that you would need to do any of this I just enjoy it and for the two years we had it we had no problems.

Man I have a Hi-Sun UTV, it's like a Yamaha. Thing is awesome, no problems and runs/starts perfect. I think they're like anything with an engine. The horror stories will come out of the wood works but good stories, you never hear of. My bro in law has a Polaris ranger, he's got plenty of headaches. My neighbor has a Chinese 4 wheeler, wouldn't even discuss selling when I asked....

I had one I bought new, used it for a year with not one issue. It was used at my home place near daily. I bought a new Honda and the Sunl(brand) sat for 2 years. I put a battery on it and it started grudgingly but ran pretty good after it warmed up. Sold it to a friend and he is still using it. It ain't love but it ain't bad.

I've got a jainshe puma 250 that runs like a raped ape..... Any part I needed came from a yamaha beartracker. Only replaced the pull starter rope assembly because it was cheaper to get a new assembly from the States than parts to repair the one I had local. And replaced the piston, jug and head (used) because I forgot to check the oil....

I have 2. Both Hansen 250's. Bought em for my daughters to buzz around our place on. Had em going on 6 years now. Have had no problems so far. Except one is really hard on tires, both front and back.

My dad has had a kazuma 90cc for the grandkids to ride for several years. It's been pretty good overall with few problems.

I think a lot of the problem is the mentality of folks.... They require maintenance and repairs like anything else. Folks seem to buy them with the "it oughta last til I can afford sumpin better" attitude and don't maintain them. Or, they need some work that the buyer can't handle and is too embarrassed to call a shop and say he went cheap so drives it til it drops then badmouths the machine. Then you have the garages that refuse to work on them cause they didn't sell them or "they ain't American" or "they're just china junk and I ain't gonna touch em".....
My Jainsche has been setting outside in rain, snow, and ice uncovered since September. Battery was weak but gave it a shot of ether (cause I'm lazy) and pulled the rope once and it started yesterday...

Had a 250 cc for 3 years with no problems at all. Did everything it was supposed to do. Only reason I sold it was that I needed a 4 x 4.

well part of the problem (if u wanna call it that) is that a lot of guys had hondas/kawasaki/suzuki/yamaha growing up and got exactly that, they lasted until they got something better with very little maitenence. i got a 1993 honda fourtrax 300 brand new when i was in 8th grade, rode the heck out of it and changed the oil one time (and maybe replaced spark plug) till i sold it to a buddy in 2005, i tried to buy it back a few years ago and he wouldnt do it, he still uses it every year at the lease and filling feeders.

I'm still using a 1991 Kawasaki Bayou 300. It's old and a little cold blooded but it still works well. You get what you pay for.

cross reference your sparkplug to an Autolite and see how it does. You may find that it's the best 2 bucks you ever spent.
Hard to find anything affordable here unless it's chinese. I'm always watching for one of the older honda foremans that I can grab cheap. Until then, I'll just keep on with my junker.... I've got the 900 bucks I paid for it back several times in the time, work, and wear/tear on the car and tractor it's saved. Even has a 50 buck (new from ebay)china junk carburetor on it for the last 3 years. Guess I've just been lucky.....

almost all of the atv dealers around dallas have one or two lines on the showroom. check craigslist, they are all over it too. most of them will not give a brand name, it just says "atv."

I think the only issue I had was the spark plug kept fouling. Not from oil but running too rich. Once I got the correct spark plug it it, hot enough, I had no other problems.I don't remember if this is where I bought the one that I had but here is a web site.

This is the exact one that I had bought 3 years ago but looks like they are calling a different model now. Oh I see, mine was chain drive and this one is shaft drive. I paid $1800 for mine 3 years ago.

Only thing I had to do was bolt the tires and wheels on and reposition the handle bars. Came in a crate. Wasn't bad at all.
