Container to boil water would be my first choice. I would make a knife from stone and then all other survival necessities can be made from that. A container to purify and transport water can be extremely difficult to obtain in the wild. Can be done though. A good bow drill is easy to make if you practice ahead of time using a sharp edged rock.

Just remember your rules of 3.

3 minutes without breathing (drowning, asphyxiation)
3 hours without shelter in an extreme environment (exposure)
3 days without water (dehydration)
3 weeks without food (starvation)

And the most important rule. Stay calm, use your head and think it through. Panic kills

A whole bunch of matches. And then an axe.

There aren't any woods around here big enough for me to get lost in.

Yes sadly that's true for a lot of places. All depends on the environment your lost in. You wind up lost in the summer in Utah or Arizona miles upon miles from water sources and civilization. A knife, gun, fire starter, GPS, ect will do you absolutely no good if your looking at a 20 to 60 mile walk between water sources. Without a way to transport it you will be dead in a couple of days if you don't find another source and are smart about your travels.

definitely a good silva compass.
i have an ancient magellan gps,
but i can't make any batteries
with sticks or rocks, and if the
earth's magnetism quits working ,
two boxcar loads of supplies won't
do anyone any good any longer.

next is a space blanket.
(which i wouldn't really need- if
i have a compass i'm going home)
