Looking for a feeder hog light, I'm sure some are better than others, any recommendations? Red or green? I'll be stand hunting from about 100yds from the feeder.

bowlite.com

also id recomend going with a scope mounted light...gives you more opportunitys and aslo you can see your recticles better if your using a scope....with the feeder lights unless you have lit recticles its hard to pick them up

I purchased some of the Piggie Poppers that were for sale in the classied section a while back. I can't comment of the products durability, but so far they work as advertised. I have 4 on a feeder and it's ample light if you have good optics. For my gun and bow I use Elusive Wildlife products.

Just duct tape solar powered landscape lights from Lowe's up high enough on your feeder legs the hogs cant chew on them and good to go. Less than $20 and you're done. Or you can spend $150 on a green scope light.

Do you guys who use the solar yard lights find the white light a problem?

It would seem to be the ideal solution since there is no battery involved & they could stay up all the time.

no prob. with the white on the landscape lights but if you want color make sure you buy the brand in the link... on the same isle in home depot a few feet over they sell a pack of red, blue and green round glass that fits perfectly all you need is super glue no disassembly required.

Isn't it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different.

Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

To answer the OP, the Elusive Wildlife Hog Kill Lights work well at that distance. You may have to squint to see your cross hairs, but a lighted reticle will solve that.

Has anyone used a motion sensor in conjunction with a feeder light?

After sitting up way past my bedtime this weekend, I thought it would help if the lights came on when something came in the area.

Either that, or a sensor that would make my cell phone vibrate & wake me up. coffee

I have used and still use the cheap solar lights. The biggest problem with them is that they don't last long. White is fine around the feeders. They quickly get used to it. I use those lights to watch for activity. Once I see it I flip on the XLR 250 and illuminated reticle and slowly lower to the target.

....or I use night vision monoculars/binoculars to spot action, then a night vision scope for the shot...

The kill light illuminates well. As long as the hog is right under the feeder. Too small of an area is lit up. Looking still.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

I use Elusive Wildlife feeder light on the bottom of the feeder, they are $50 I move it feeder to feeder and have never had pigs spook from the light. The area it lights depends on how high you put it, its bright enough to put fifteen feet up and will shine a thirty yard circle well enough to shoot. I also have the sniper hawg light mounted on my scope so when pigs come in to feeder light I see em then turn the scope light on em and start shooting. I do not run lights on my feeder anytime other than when I'm hunting it doesn't bother them if done right.

CHECK ON THESE OFTEN

These go one sale fairly regular around $36-$38 bucks, and work very well. Excellent construction, made of metal, not like the plastic ones that get torn up. Take a square brake/tail lens for a trailer, cut a half inch or so off two sides, and silicone the lens over the glass.

I bought one, and it worked so well that three guys on my lease bought one each to do the same thing with.

How long do these lights last? I like the idea of no batteries, but am trying to find a set up once, be done with it for the year solution.

I just bought one of these and put it on my feeder about a month ago. From everything I have read about them, they are like you say, "just set it up once and forget about it". I have a bunch of coons where I hunt and this all being in one big unit makes it very nice not having to worry about anything messing with wires and having to run conduit or anything. I like it a lot right now, but I will see how it works over time.

They last a couple of years...sometimes three. Just to clarify.....all of these lights have a battery. The solar panel charges the battery and that is what powers the light. Some of these will make it all night, some for maybe 4 hours. I have found a big variance on that even with same manufacturer, same light.

That is because in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan...where these lights are made, there are no national or trade standards. All factories are government owned and do not set quality control parameters. They only care about your dollar and how fast they can get it from you. That is why, in almost every single circumstance, Chinese made goods are inferior to American made goods. The Chinese do not even have a national manufacturing standard for measuring the luminosity of the lights they make. A 200 lume light from one batch of lights may have a 20% variance, if not greater, from the previous or following batch of the same light. We have 3 new models of feeder lights getting ready to debut in the next month, and I made a conscious effort to utilize only American made parts to comprise our lighting systems. The only thing that we could not find an American substitute for was the LED chip itself...other than that it is All-American. We at Tasker believe in American quality, and I(we) refuse to compromise our products integrity or performance. When you buy one of our proprietary designs, you know you are getting the best constituent parts that can be had. The same can not be said about any of the Chinese products. Basically, that is why Chinese lights of the same design will give different levels of performance.

Thanks for the heads up. I figured they had a battery, but nothing you have to replace, right? I spend a small fortune in batteries as it is. Have you found different brands to better than others?

Some of them have replaceable rechargeable batteries, some do not. Be sure and ask the sales rep if the model you want has one that can be replaced. Most of the Chinese made lights just use a cheap battery that is only good for about 500 charging cycles. Some of the websites will tell you how many cycles the battery is rated for. Also, try to avoid the lithium batteries as most of them have a memory. Ideally, you want one that does not have a memory, like the nickel metal hydride.

As Dragunov said, some have replaceable batteries. All of mine do. But sometimes it is something else that has failed on the light.

It's a cheap way to have lights. You can replace them periodically. Any solar powered light will have a battery and it is going to fail at some point. You can spend more and get more light and maybe longer reliability, but it will always be something you chase...

I agree with the American made products even if it is a little more costly.
