Never used a scope, but if I were to the Nikon shotgun with the turkey retical would sure be tempting.

I'm trying to decide between the Nikon and the truglo gobble stopper red dot. Thought I would see if anyone had any experience with either.

I dont know that i would use a scope for turkeys. If i was to try a different sight I might try something like the burris speed bead.

Burris Fastfire III or a Mueller seem to be the most popular red dot sights used for turkey hunting. Reasonably priced and dependable. One step above those are EoTech.

Seriously though i dnt see a shotgun as a scoped gun.... maybe a slug gun but not realy... IMO your gona limit yourself with vision and when turkey hunting your gona usualy be shooting at 10,15,25yrds and i wouldnt want to be lookin through a scope at 10yrds

Nothing even wrong with using your regular old shotgun bead or no bead at all. It's important to pattern the ammo you will be shooting if at all possible.

Rarely, a quick second shot may be required on a flying/wounded Tom. A scope would be a major handicap here. Use your scope money to buy ammo, camo, and permethrin.

Used to have one and after a few years decided i really didnt need it and if you need the second quick follow up shot it was a pain.

Thanks for the input. Think I'm going with the gobble stopper. I'm putting it on my pro hunter turkey gun so a quick follow up shot isn't really a factor!

If you got the money, the best is a Trijicon RMR. Shoot with both eyes open. Once patterned and adjusted, it's pretty hard to miss. These sights are lightening fast to lock onto the target. I have one on my 3 gun AR and my turkey gun. The only down side is the $$$$. Robust design!

If you use a scope with a shotgun: 1) you cannot see everything that you will hit. If you have ever hit two ducks with one shot, you have the same risk of not being able to see other targets when you shoot at a tom. 2) you cannot make a quick follow up shot. If there are more than one turkey or if you miss your first shot.
I used to use a 3 power diamond retical scope, but I will not use it again.

One of my friends has a nikon turkey scope on his gun...
Its really pretty slick. The range-finding feature is really clever and seems to work well.
(If the bare part of the turkeys head fits inside the circle, it is at approximately 40 yards).

a fixed power scope with a turkey reticle is not bad. I prefer a red dot tried it couple years back after using a bead since I was about 16 years old and I must say I love using the red dot it`s just easier for me and if your needing a follow up shot then you probably need to pattern your gun or switch from a bead to a red dot and you won`t need a second shot. just saying

Long beard is a long beard... trophy turkey hunting is just silly didn`t say trophy I said Dominant . not saying what is and what is not a trophy to any hunter, to each his own but a 2 year old bird can be more dominant than a 3 year old bird doesn`t make him a trophy. Trophy bird to me is a mature bird with 1.5" plus spurs and usually travels alone cause no one else dares travel with him and because some hunters tend to be greedy and want to kill 2 birds in one set up(not saying that it is wrong or right)but they usually won`t see birds like that because just like deer hunting you have to let them grow they don`t have spurs like that when hatched. If 2 10 pt bucks walked by would you kill the mature deer or both?

Yes and i deffinintly see were you are coming from... but i shoot older deer to let them reach full antler growth....if i shoot older turkey it would just let them reach full turkey imo... im not one to shoot a jake but im gona shoot a 2yr+ bird...and im going to make sure and stay within my legal limits...if not many polts show that yr im not going to shoot all my tags....but yes i guess the importance level of a bird is the difference between us too. not knocking it cuz i love to turkey hunt...but only because its something to do when deer/duck season isnt going on lol

Just imagine if old Ben would have been able to convince the first government to pick the Turkey as our national bird (and they were protected). We are lucky to have a lot of Rios here. Turkey hunting is a whole lot more difficult in other parts of the country.

I usually see more eagles than turkey.... Over where y'all camped out on "our local lake" (the first time...pre tournament) has some on NF land.
