Headed out to West Texas and took some customers of mine out to Stanfields for the weekend. With the conditions that we have been dealt this year, I told them to expect average or less. Just how the years been. These guys are like me, they hunt green heads or big shoots.
We were not disappointed. Saturday become known over the weekend as "The Texas Sandhill Massacre" out there.
One of the guys with me ran a Go-Pro on his head the entire hunt. I will have a better video later. He has to load everything to movie maker and edit it. These are a few clips that I took off the laptop with my I-Phone when we got back to camp.

A small group....

Last group and what is known as "Choppin" up North!....

There were other groups we got on film in between, these were just 2 I filmed off his laptop.

As many of you know, these birds are very hard to kill, and to shoot a full limit of 42 birds, lets just say the stars lined up that morning.

Just wanted to give Jeff a huge thanks for the hook up. Unreal shoot. Thanks buddy.

Very nice. I bet they make one heck of a thud when they hit the ground.

Went with Stanfield's last year and absolutely hammered the cranes the first morning. It was a nice trip with good accomodations and outstanding hunting.

How do Sandhills compare to Geese on the dinner table?

I have never taken one.

Thanks

They are very good. Way better tasting than Geese or duck.

Their nicknames are "Ribeye's in the Sky!"

In Kansas, we called them Sirloins of the Sky! They eat just like beef steak, more like the flavor of a sirloin (less flavor) than a Ribeye (better flavor). They taste nothing like any duck, goose, prarie chicken, dove or any other red meat flying bird.

Was in Beeville, TX and have never seen so many last weekend. We were on a buddies farm and they were across a fence. Went and asked the lady on the land if we could hunt and she told us we had 15 seconds to get off her porch before she shot us. Needless to say we didn't get any.

When Jeff told me the cranes were there, it was a no-brainer.

If we aren't supposed to eat the animals, then why did God make them out of meat?
