I was asked recently by two different hunting buddies if I had heard anything about the WSM calibers being discontinued....obviously I had not and thought I would ask the same question here.
Has anyone heard of such information?
With the huge popularity of the 270WSM, 7mmWSM, 300WSM and 325 WSM I would be shocked if they were dropped.

The 7mm WSM is mostly discontinued. Ammo is available and I think Kimber is the last one making firearms for them.

I would expect the WSSMs to be dropped before the WSMs

Never shot the new improved chambers but considering the old standbys worked great maybe they are just running the course and fading away? Not like the reinvented the mousetrap.Bullets can only go so fast and deer be so dead right?

Dead is Dead, that is for sure
Let's face it, it is just another marketing scheme to sell guns.
Although I must admit I did buy a 270WSM and a 300WSM myself

I shoot the 300 WSM and glad I do...but you make a good point DEAD IS DEAD! I'm not going to say I made a foolish decision in buying this caliber butttt I know I could do the same thing with much less rifle!! I guess I had Elk hunting in Colorado in mind when I bought my 300 WSM

I don't have ammo sales numbers; don't know if anyone would. Who's chambering firearms for what caliber is a good indicator, though.

I agree with kmon1 that WSSMs are Dead Man Walking. RSAUMs and 325 WSM, also. Among the WSMs, two definitely have commercial appeal; the 270 & 300. I don't think 7 WSM is quite dead yet; it seems there is BR/LRS interest in it. But Yeah, that's aftermarket barrels.

I like the idea of the rounds but the lack of brass availability is a large hindrance, this is one reason the long range guys are running the 7-300WSM since the 300 brass is more common.

Browning has several rifles in 7mm WSM. I have and like mine, but it kicks a bit.

All of the WSSMs and WSMs were a desperate marketing move by Winchester to deal with company monetary issues. In commercially availible firearms they added nothing to accuarcy or velocity that was not already out in the marketplace. Most of them did not even match up to what was already out there. For reloaders WSM and WSSM brass was thick and hard as steel. The WSSMs had to be loaded to max to get chamber gases to seal off properly and stop blow back. The best design of the WSM cases(7mm)simply never took off. Folks bought enough of them to be around for a while but if you think you need a magnum ctg there are better performace ctgs availible that have been and will continue to be around a long time.

The only one I think that will survive is the 270 WSM, it's only real competition is the 270 Weatherby which has never been a real popular round.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I have a. 300 wsm that is a tack driver. It took first grab spot from my .30-06 after toting that For many years. More gun than needed? Yes. But it shoots so well it is what I now carry. With Federal TSX 180 it anchors game. The others may well fade but from what I have seen the 300 is mighty popular. Will it do anything the old .300 win mag won't? No.

The 270 WSM has competition in the cartridge it was benchmarked to-.270 Winchester. .270 Weatherby is a whole 'nother level. But what you minimally gain with a short action and maybe a smidge more performance is offset by the cost. Still, it's reasonably popular and one of the most affordable WSM rounds. That said, I did get several boxes of 7 WSM Federal Premium w/160 NBT for $27.99 from Midway.

On the subject, has anyone seen or used the Sauvestre 270 & 300 WSM ammo that Century was to import? Looks like a Barnes bullet w/big hollow point. Watching the video, it looked like there was some sort of core; I'm guessing polymer and to promote mushrooming.

I've heard similar things about the WSM's but nothing than more of campfire talk. I almost bought a WSM several years back when they were the "hot" new deal, but opted not to in fear of 5-10 years down the road ammunition going through the roof and becoming scarce. I will continue to go with the good ol' boys unless they come out with something superior to what's has been on the market for decades.
