My lease consist of 4 hunters on a little over 600 acres, low fence. We have 2 guys that are hunting an extra 200 acres on some land that butts up against ours. We have foud out that the two guys that are hunting that land are not (management) hunters. Have any of you run across this problem and how have you handled it? Should I talk with the GW or the land owner?

Don't think you can force your "management" values on anyone. If they are abiding by the lease rules set by the owner and is legal then they can do what they want.

As long as their staying within that counties limits, there is not much you can do... Short of just talking to them and trying to get them on the same page as y'all!

Sounds like something you can't control if it's not your place.

GW can't do anything if they're killing legal deer and legal amounts. The only way the land owner could help is if he has a management rules on a contact with them.

I will talk with them and the land owner this week and see what the perimeters are on their lease agreement. We signed our lease agreement under the terms of certain "Buck" management. Not a 1 and a half old barely 13" spread deer. Thanks guys, I will just have to talk to them and hope they hunt with good judgement. We all know you cant manage your neighbors, but I don't want to be sitting in my stand and have to shoot a deer I wouldn't normaly shoot because of the old saying, "If you don't, your neighbor will".

Like said above, they arent your deer.
I know where your coming from, we hunted 700 and change acres for over 20 years, the second 10 we worked on trying to manage it with reducing herd numbers and waiting for bucks to mature. The neighbors on 2 sides shot everything that walked, it made it more dificult, but they were within their rights by the law and abided by the rules of the property they leased. We all hunt differently.

I'm not saying the deer are "My deer" but I plant food plots and I do my due dilligence to managing a good ethic hunting lease. I'm not a kill all kind of hunter. These guys are younger and I have been on the lease for 4 years and have watched these deer grow. It may be my side of the fence but I still do not agree with shooting a 2 year old buck that is legal, when in a couple more years that Buck will have produced good genetics and will make a good trophy as a mature buck. Just my opinion, I know we will not all agree.

Try owning your own place and putting money and time into a multi year plan. Sorry bro, can't do anything about what your neighbors do.

I agree, damn neighbors like it or lump it, we have all been through it I'm sure. Last week they drove up to our camp and showed us a young 8 we had on camera and he was barely legal. All I can do is just give them advice and put in the hours and harvest the buck I want. More of a rant I guess, thanks again guys.

My folks live on 150 acres. We haven't taken 5 deer off our place in the last 10 years. But, the neighbors have a stand and feeder on our back fence line. The backside of our land is about 50 acres of woods and their land is bare with maybe 5 trees per 20 acres. They are clearly luring the deer from our place to theirs and my parents hear several shots per yr come from that stand.
Long story but, there is nothing that we can do about it. I was told they moved their stand this year after keeping it there for as long as I can remember. Yay!
It's frustrating.

i let 3 2.5 year old 10 points walk on my lease only to see the neighbor to my property take them to taxidermist in the only taxidermist in the town. recognized the racks right away and never saw the animals again live.
i had even told him what we were doing and he didn't care. only way you can stop it is to high fence.

Makes you want to go over and piss around their feeders! Just kidding, I wouldn't stoop to that level. I wish I could high fence! Hopefully some day the lord will bless me with the means of owning my own land and then I can manage that land. Lives of a lease hunter!

If you leave certain bucks alone and do not harrass or shoot other deer next to them...and, do this year after year for several years (and have the cover and food for them)....even a 200 acre place can keep nice bucks around. Not all of them, but enough to give you an opportunity at a nice mature buck eventually.
It ticks me off when I leave a nice 3 or 4 year old deer alone to let it grow and someone on an adjacent property takes it....but, I know that if I continue to let some nice young ones walk, I will get a good one eventually. And, I do not let all the young ones walk. I let friends take some of them.

Happens to everybody I'm sure. We let a nice 3 yo 10 walk last year. I saw him 2 days after regular season was over and thought if he gets good food and don't get poached he's good. Nieghbors daughter got him during late youth season, not a lot could be done other than congratulate the youth huntress.

Your deer? Did you call dibs? If so they should leave "your deer" alone....the nerve of those guys.

Just giving you grief. It is understood in Texas that we talk about "my" deer on my place when deer subject comes up.

If your willing to shoot just to keep your neighbors from shooting then you are not managing. Your not even giving him a chance to avoid the neighbor

There's nothing you can do as long as they're hunting within the rules. Your best bet may honestly be to show them what you've seen and get them onboard with the idea that they can kill really big bucks if they let the youngsters walk.
It sucks, but that's just something that comes with the territory.

They feel like my deer . Just a lot of money and time spent on trying to making it a good lease to see your neighbors who only have one feeder and stand about 20 yards from our fence line limit out in one weekend. Just a common rant I guess. It is what it is. Good luck to all of you this season!

Someone used to have a sig line that went something like this:
"If you shoot a buck just so your neighbor doesn't get him, then you are THAT neighbor."
