TPW admits to KS TTT. Wish I still had a link to the PDF of deer numbers transported in and how many went to each county and from where. Someone had posted a link to it on here not long after I joined.

I think those northern counties didnt get stocked much at all. houston co. was right in the heart of the restock

If I remember correctly the northern counties had to be restocked the most and the numbers went down the further south you went. Makes sense because the more pasture land there is, the easier it is to wipe out deer.

You all have made me think about some of the possible negatives of AR...especially the taking of evey 2 and 3 pointers that walk out. This year will be important in determining more about how I feel. Last season I did not see many deer...does or bucks...and I blamed it on the drought. This year, with good rain and 6 years of AR....there should be a vast improvmement...you would think.

Many who disagree with it do not have the genetics in place to get a whole lot of wide deer, other can out manage blanket regulations because they can actually age deer on the hoof and TPW does nothing but put a handicap on those kind of ppl.

I'd like to add that the entire Sam Houston National Forest is a WMA so to kill a doe anywhere on it, at least during the general season, you have to have a permit.

That's really how it should be with at least a phone # to call into with a press 1 for buck kill, press 2 for doe kill...to get some numbers figured up.

Definitely a sidebar point, but IMO, the past importing of deer from northern states explains why the deer in East Texas seem to rut at the same time as their northern counterparts. As a comparison, the deer in East Mississippi (identical climate) where I hunted as a kid always went into rut much later and near the end of their season, which seems more appropriate for deer with our climate. As I understand it, deer in northern climates rut earlier so they fawns will be born earlier in the Spring and become better able to achieve body mass necessary to survive the coming winter.

This is a great point. I had always wondered why in the world deer around where I hunt rut so early, then I heard this same thing addressed on a hunting show over the weekend. Suddenly it all made sense.

AR has done nothing but ruin the hunting in hopkins co. and the bag limit is to high.

I'd be happy to see a buck, doe and fawn on my place. I've never had too many deer, but in years past have at least had/seen a few. Zero so far this year...

It has been 6+ years since AR started. Every deer has had time to mature. Where's all those anyway monsters?

A basket 8 from the 05 should be a cover story if age is all it takes.

A good number. I will say my ratio is not all that out of whack now owing to the fact we shoot very few bucks of any stripe and have taken alot of does. But it ain't where it could be so my instruction is to keep on killing the does.

Pardon the pun, but there's never a silver bullet, even in deer hunting.
