Coming from a bird dog owners opinion..... One who kills unpointed birds.

Not saying this is wrong to be a meat hunter but it's just not something I would do

Gone! History! Throw back! Antique!

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

A meat hunter would be way far money ahead to go shopping for yard bird, rather than hunting for quail. The commodity is just too rare and expensive.

To me a meat hunter is a guy or gal that shoots at every bird that flies or runs by (skillet shooters) and chases coveys down until there is no more covey to chase. I'm not a hater of someone that shoots an unpointed bird if we have been struggling to even find some birds as long they dont shoot more than two per covey & we let the covey go after that.

"meat hunter" is a pejorative some bird hunters use to disparage other bird hunters because they never outgrew their adolescent insecurities.

Something to talk about while the forum is slow & seasons are out? If you don't like a topic, move on & quit trolling. Your opinions are not the only ones people want to see / read, believe it or not, other people have opinions about things that don't match yours.

Not sure what got your shorts all wadded up but Westtex75 is one of many level headed posters on the board. Hardly a "troller" and you might want to think about your post and the fact that others do have different opinions from your own.

cc let me be the first to congratulate you on your status as moderator and say I'm sorry to have dissappointed you.

let me tell you something, asking a question is not trolling by any defintion I have ever seen and frankly chief, I'm tickled your opionions don't match mine.

Here's an opinion for you....MEAT HUNTER is a term used in a derogatory manner by bird hunters that believe their way of doing it is the right way to do it.... A divisive/immflamatory word that serves to split the bird hunting community at a time when that is the last thing we need... And that is why I ask the question ..Why do this??...It has been discussed ad nauseum on this forum....

bird hunters already have a repuation for being a rich man's eliteist sport..and this just further drives the sterotype..

now if you want to call me a meat hunter...well that's ok with me. I have got a little bit of a bird hunting past and was probably doing it when you were fishing off the dock at cedar creek with your snoppy rod and reel.. and I can promise you this lots of my dollars have gone to preserving this sport and will continue to in the years to come. so if your bored/slow ask yourself this ...What have I done lately to help the quail...instead of busting my chops about a legitimate question....

Well said westtex75.

Sometimes I'm a bird dog purist and sometimes I'm a meat hunter. Just depends on what I want to do. As Bobo said, if I'm pheasant hunting and a big ole [censored] wants to give me a pot shot after I've walked for 2 hrs up and down a maize field - he's toast - on the ground or in the air, or I'll dang sure ring his neck if a dog catches him too!

I like being in the field, with friends and having fun!

What's got my shorts wadded up, is the fact that a guy comes on here asking opinions & someone has to give him a hard time.
There does not have to be purpose for a thread, people can ask any question they want & there is no reason to make comments like that. People gave their opinion, not one person said anything about one being right or one being wrong. No reason to disrespect the O.P., he was just trying to start a thread & get some opinions, he even said that he's not saying it's wrong to be a meat hunter just asking what your definition was, so instead of answering with opinions, we have guy's that have to make smart azz comments.

You are a meat hunter..... You need to have it tattooed on your arm and display it for the lady at the welfare office and then live it up .... cause you are going straight to hell!!!!

This a poor attempt at a joke based on yesterday's ongoing debate about ink and the end result of such.....

I got nothing againt snoopy...In fact we once had a bird dog back in the early 70's named "snoopy" (what can I say my youngest sister named him).....
If you look in the dictionary for the word "meat dog" you will see a picture of old snoopy.
That's right he was that ugly but, would point and hold a bird...

His biggest claim to fame...he loved onions...that's right ...I said onions....big ones, little ones, yellow ones, purpule ones...didn't matter....the dogs ate table scraps and he would dig thru em looking for an onion....a few years later our vet told us about how onions are deadly for dogs and such.....

I don't know.... ole snoopy lived on the edge I guess...

and please no one feed their dog an onion...this is a story not a recommendation...

Wow! If you pot shoot on the ground you gonna wound more than you pick up. Anytime lead shot nicks a quail bird gangreen sets in and that nicked birds dies.My opinion of one that pot shoots is not a sportsman.
